While it was a great phone at launch, the iPhone 8 Plus is showing its age in 2024. If you’re looking for longevity in a device, it’s hard to recommend this older Apple handset. This is because Apple has stopped supporting the iPhone 8 Plus, meaning it won’t receive any major iOS updates beyond iOS 16.
Still, if all you need is a cheap Apple handset that’ll do the job, you can now score the iPhone 8 Plus for a bargain price. Apple no longer sells it, but you can pick it up on a pay-monthly contract from a variety of mobile networks, including Vodafone and Talkmobile.
The iPhone 8 Plus’ display
The True Tone display creates a wide colour gamut, giving impressive depths of colour and vibrancy. The iPhone 8 Plus finely adjusts the viewing experience by sensing the colour temperature of the surrounding environment. It then makes subtle adjustments to the white balance, giving a paper-like reading experience that reduces eyestrain.
The iPhone 8 Plus’ design
The iPhone 8 Plus’ durable front and back glass faces are fixed onto an aerospace 7000-series aluminium frame.
Its build has IP67-rated splash and water resistance. While it’s not on par with the IP68 rating that’s standard with more modern smartphones, it’ll still able to withstand being dropped in the bathtub.
The iPhone 8 Plus’ camera
The iPhone 8 Plus has a dual 12MP camera, consisting of a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens. These lenses enable optical zooming and the capturing of blurred backgrounds. Portrait Lighting lets users add studio lighting effects, while Portrait Mode allows users to remove the background for stunning results. There’s also a 7MP camera for taking selfies.
