Availability and price
The iPhone 14 Pro was released in September 2022. At launch, prices started from £1,099.
As well as buying directly from Apple, you can get it on a pay-monthly contract from a variety of top mobile networks. Just use our comparison table on this page to see what deals are available.
How good is the iPhone 14 Pro’s design and display?
The iPhone 14 Pro’s design is second to none, with a sleek aluminium finish. It also drops the infamous notch, first seen on the iPhone X, for a cutout that’s streamlined and more in line with its competitors.
Other than that, Apple hasn’t exactly made any other bold changes. To the untrained eye, the iPhone 14 Pro looks much the same to the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro before it. That’s no bad thing, but those hoping for a complete overhaul may not be satisfied just yet.
As for its screen, it measures 6.1 inches diagonally – the same as all the Pro models before it. The resolution comes in at 1179 x 2556 pixels, with 460 pixels per inch. The variable refresh rate once again reaches 120Hz, which means smooth graphics and gaming.
Nevertheless, the iPhone 14 Pro’s display features some big changes compared to the previous iPhone 13. The new cutout design isn’t just for aesthetic purposes. As well as housing the FaceTime and TrueDepth cameras, it incorporates the new and exciting Dynamic Island. This funkily-named function uses the cutout design to cleverly bring notifications to life – the overall effect is hugely impressive.
Apple says that the iPhone 14 Pro’s display is now up to two times brighter in sunny conditions, reaching a peak of 2,000 nits. Meanwhile, photos and videos reach a peak of 1,600 nits.
It now also comes with an Always On setup, so you can check the time and other key details without having to pick the device up. As Android phones have had this for a while, it’s great to see that the iPhone 14 Pro has caught up.
How good is the iPhone 14 Pro’s Camera?
This is where the iPhone 14 Pro really stands out. It has retained a triple lens system, rather than moving to a quad camera like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
However, the main lens has been given a boost to a f/1.78 48MP, and is backed up by a f/2.8 aperture 12MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP ultrawide lens with f/2.2 aperture. The main lens uses quad pixel tech, with Apple promising two times better low-light photography compared with 2021’s iPhone 13 Pro.
That’s a bold claim, but one that holds much promise. The flash, too, has been upgraded and is now twice as bright as its predecessor. The TrueDepth selfie camera stays at 12MP but comes with improved low light smarts and autofocus.
Throw in its magnificent 4K video (more on that below) and the iPhone 14 Pro’s camera is designed to take on and beat the very best Android smartphones.
Is the iPhone 14 Pro good for video?
It’s no secret that Apple is class-leading when it comes to video, and the iPhone 14 Pro maintains that stellar reputation.
All three of its rear cameras, as well as the front camera, can shoot 4K at 60 frames per second. For a more ‘cinematic’ look, Apple’s enviable Cinematic Mode can record 4K at 24fps.
Meanwhile, excellent video stabilisation courtesy of Action Mode means footage is seriously smooth, even in the shakiest of hand-held situations. The level of colours, contrast, detail and dynamic range is extremely impressive and true to life.
All in all, the iPhone 14 Pro is astoundingly good for video. You’ll be able to reliably shoot top-quality video in a variety of situations – making it a perfect choice for streamers and YouTubers.

What are the key differences between the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro?
While the iPhone 14 Pro sports roughly the same size and design as the previous year’s iPhone 13 Pro, there are some key differences worth noting. Here’s our take on what Apple has got right with the 14 Pro.
What we like
- The end of the notch means a much sleeker cutout for Face ID
- Dynamic Island is a sleeker way of doing notifications
- Always On Display brings iPhone 14 Pro in line with best Samsung devices
- Camera is even better than predecessor, especially in low light
- A16 Bionic chipset is lightning fast
- Battery life is superb
What we don’t like
- Design is largely the same as older models
- Price is prohibitively expensive for most, with 128GB model costing £1,099 SIM free
How does the iPhone 14 Pro compare to other flagship handsets in the UK market?
The iPhone 14 Pro is arguably the best smartphone released in 2022. Only a handful of flagship devices come close.
These include the top of the range Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, Google Pixel 6 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4. Each of these devices have superb cameras that match the iPhone in terms of specs, while the Always On Display functionality Apple has introduced has long been a staple of Android phones.
What sets the iPhone apart from the crowd is its powerful and efficient A16 Bionic chip, well-optimised iOS 16 platform, stellar battery life and superb video quality.

iPhone 14 Pro contract options
Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro won’t come cheap, but getting a contract will help you secure one right away and spread the cost.
Can I get an iPhone 14 Pro with no upfront cost?
Potentially, yes. While you usually need to pay an upfront cost for a contract with a pricey flagship phone, there’s still a handful of networks that offer phone contracts with no upfront cost.
Deals with no upfront cost can change quite frequently. So, you should shop around and compare deals to find the best one with nothing to pay upfront.
Just set the slider in the filters above to only show deals with no upfront costs.
Can I get the iPhone 14 Pro with unlimited data?
You can find an unlimited data deal on the iPhone 14 Pro by comparing here. Just move the slider above to unlimited (or very high) data to see all your options.
What's the cheapest way to get an iPhone 14 Pro?
In general, the cheapest way of getting any phone is to buy it outright and off-contract, then get a SIM-only deal with a monthly allowance of data, minutes and texts.
That said, it’s a lot of money to spend in one go. If you’d prefer to spread the cost over the course of several months, it’s worth checking out a pay-monthly phone contract instead.
To find pay-monthly iPhone 14 Pro deals, use the comparison table at the top of this page. You can sort by monthly and total cost to see what you’ll end up paying.
Can I get the iPhone 14 Pro with poor credit?
Possibly, though it might be difficult. Networks typically run credit checks on mobile contract deals, especially for pricier flagship phones.
You might have more luck getting a contract for a refurbished handset, or a deal from a reseller.

Is the iPhone 14 Pro worth buying in 2023?
The iPhone 14 Pro was released in September 2022. It was – and still is – one of the best smartphones on the market, sporting a best-in-class camera, battery life and chipset.
It came with a hefty price tag at launch, however. If you want to snap it up at a lower price point, you may need to wait for a newer iPhone – or find a pay-monthly contract that’ll help make the cost more manageable.
Is now a good time to buy the iPhone 14 Pro?
That depends on your preferences. If you like having the latest tech and want to make the most of six years of iOS updates, it’s good to get the iPhone 14 Pro as early as possible.
On the other hand, you might not mind waiting until it’s dropped in price – more on that below.
Will the iPhone 14 Pro drop in price?
iPhones will drop in price whenever a new one goes on sale – for iPhones, this is usually September or October every year. So, if you want to get the iPhone 14 Pro at a lower price, it’s best to wait until then.
Should I upgrade or wait for the next model?
If you’re holding on to an old phone and are itching to upgrade, you can’t go wrong with the iPhone 14 Pro. It’s a true powerhouse of a device. Plus, with Apple promising at least six years of iOS updates, it’s set to last for a good while.
However, if you have a phone from the previous generation – an iPhone 13 Pro, say – it might not be worth upgrading just yet. Instead, you might want to wait around for Apple’s next release.
