Compare Vodafone SIM only deals
Vodafone SIM only deals let you use Vodafone’s mobile network without buying a new phone. Plans are available with different data allowances, including unlimited data options, and some tariffs include 5G, roaming or entertainment extras. Vodafone may suit customers who want a major UK network with broad 4G coverage, solid speeds and a choice of budget or premium SIM only plans.
Why choose a Vodafone SIM?
- Vodafone offers extensive 4G coverage across the UK and continues expanding its 5G network nationwide. If coverage is important to you, it's worth checking Vodafone's coverage map for your area before choosing a SIM only plan
- Vodafone's SIM only deals are available with different data allowances, including unlimited data plans. On some unlimited plans, you can choose a maximum speed tier to make your contract cheaper, or give you a speed boost if you need it
- Vodafone says more than 1 million customers are able to connect to its 5G network, although availability depends on location, device and plan
- Vodafone offer both rolling and long-term SIM contracts at 12- and 24-months
- Some Vodafone plans include roaming in selected European and worldwide destinations
- Vodafone's Entertainment plans including subscriptions to Disney+ (Standard) or Amazon Prime

What to look for in a Vodafone contract
When comparing Vodafone SIM only deals, you should pay attention to the data allowance and monthly cost offered. Vodafone offers a range of plans, from lower-cost Basics tariffs to unlimited data options, so the right deal depends on whether you mainly browse and message or regularly stream, hotspot and download large files.
The good news is that Vodafone offers SIMs as little as 1GB for light users, right up to unlimited data plans for heavy users. Vodafone also has some great 30GB data, 50GB data and 150GB data plans for those who want something in between.
It's also worth paying close attention to the freebies included with Vodafone SIM only contract you’re looking at. On select Entertainment contracts, for instance, you’re entitled to a choice of free subscriptions to Disney+ (Standard) or Amazon Prime, which could mean real savings if you’re already a subscriber to one of those services.
To ensure you choose a plan that matches your usage habits, open your network’s app on your smartphone. Here, you’ll be able to see exactly how much data you’ve been using every month. As a general guideline, light users (email and occasional browsing) might need 1-5GB, moderate users (regular social media) 10-20GB, and heavy users (video streaming, gaming) 40GB or more.

Is Vodafone a good network?
Vodafone is a good network for customers who want a major UK provider with broad 4G coverage, solid everyday speeds and a range of SIM only options. Vodafone says its 4G network covers more than 99% of UK homes, although signal can still vary by postcode, building type, terrain and congestion.
Independent performance data puts Vodafone in a balanced middle position among the big four. In OpenSignal’s January 2026 UK report, Vodafone ranked third for overall Download Speed Experience at 37.5Mbps and third for Upload Speed Experience at 7.4Mbps. That places it behind EE and Three for speed, but ahead of O2 for overall download performance.
Vodafone also performs well for video. OpenSignal scored it 68.3 for Video Experience, which sits in the “Very Good” category and puts it close to Three and EE. For general browsing, social media, music, video streaming and casual gaming, Vodafone should be more than capable where coverage is strong.
Vodafone also offers extra perks on selected SIM only plans. Some Entertainment plans include a choice of subscriptions such as Amazon Prime or Disney +, while other higher-tier plans can include 5G Ultra, international minutes and inclusive roaming in 52 European or 84 worldwide destinations. Vodafone also offers VeryMe Rewards, with weekly treats, giveaways and prize draws for customers.
Vodafone is rated very highly by customers, with an Excellent 4.7 star rating on Trustpilot from over 128,000 reviews, while an Ofcom report shows that Vodafone received relatively few complaints - 2 per 100,000 - from its mobile customers.

Can I use my Vodafone SIM abroad?
You can, but you will have to pay for the privilege if you took out your Vodafone contract after 11 August 2021 or you haven’t included roaming as part of your contract. Some SIM-only deals, however, are available with inclusive European roaming.
While Ireland and the Isle of Man offer free roaming, 47 destinations in Europe, known as Zone B, will incur a £2.25 charge per day to access your allowance. That rises to £6.25 a day in Zone C, which includes Australia and the USA, and £6.85 in Zone D, which includes the likes of Argentina and Vietnam.
Can I get 5G-enabled Vodafone SIMs?
Yes, all Vodafone SIMs will now get you a 5G service in locations where it’s available and for no extra cost. If you’re outside a Vodafone 5G area, you'll be connected by 4G.
However, it’s important to note that to get 5G you’ll require a 5G-compatible smartphone.
Can I keep my mobile number if I switch to a Vodafone SIM-only deal?
Absolutely. You’ll just need to contact your existing network and ask for a porting authorisation code (PAC), which you can subsequently hand to Vodafone so they can bring across your phone number.
You can get a PAC by ringing your network, or you can request one by sending a text message.
Do I need an unlocked phone to use a Vodafone SIM?
You will require an unlocked phone to use a Vodafone SIM. But the good news is that most phones sold on big networks during the last few years will have been sold already unlocked.
To check if your phone is unlocked, you’ll just need to ask a friend or family member who’s on a different network to you if you can borrow their SIM. Then just try their SIM in your phone. If it works, yours is unlocked.
Are Vodafone SIM-only deals cheaper than a contract?
It’s pretty much always cheaper to get a SIM only deal than a standard SIM-and-phone contract. And that goes for Vodafone SIMs too.
Is Vodafone a good choice for rural areas?
Vodafone can be a good choice for rural areas, but it depends on local signal. Vodafone says its 4G network covers more than 99% of UK homes, and OpenSignal gave Vodafone a Coverage Experience score of 8.5 out of 10. Rural coverage can still vary by postcode, terrain and indoor location, so check Vodafone’s coverage map before choosing a plan.
Is Vodafone a good network for gaming and streaming?
Vodafone should be suitable for streaming and casual gaming where coverage is strong. OpenSignal scored Vodafone 68.3 for Video Experience, rated “Very Good”, and its overall download speed was 37.5Mbps in the January 2026 UK report. For competitive gaming or heavy hotspot use, check local 4G/5G performance and whether your chosen plan has any speed cap.
