Editorial Guidelines
At MoneySuperMarket our aim is to help you make more confident decisions about your money, insurance, utilities and household bills.
We create clear, practical content to help you understand your options, compare products and services, and feel more in control of your budget. This page explains how we research, write, review and update our editorial content - and how we make money.
MoneySuperMarket key principles
We:
are part of MONY Group and operate in regulated markets, including areas overseen by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
create content that is designed to help customers save money, understand their options and make informed choices
use reliable data, trusted sources and subject-matter experts to support our guides and articles
explain important assumptions, limitations and exclusions where they affect your decision
keep editorial decisions separate from commercial relationships
are open about how we make money as a business
review and update content so it stays accurate and useful
What this means for you
Our content is written to give you helpful information, not personalised financial advice.
We can explain how products work, what to consider, what common terms mean and what could affect the price or availability of a product. But we can’t tell you which option is personally right for you. The best choice will depend on your circumstances, needs, budget and eligibility.
Where we show prices, savings, quotes or examples, these may be estimates. Your actual price or saving can depend on things like your location, usage, claims history, credit profile, provider rules, payment method, policy details or the information you enter during a comparison.
What does it mean to be FCA regulated?
MONY Group Financial Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Moneysupermarket.com Limited is an appointed representative of MONY Group Financial Limited for our insurance and consumer credit activities.
The FCA regulates financial services firms in the UK. Its role includes protecting consumers, supporting market integrity and promoting effective competition.
Being FCA regulated means we must meet standards that apply to the regulated services we offer. It also means we design our comparison journeys, customer communications and relevant content with those standards in mind.
Some products and services we compare are not regulated by the FCA. For example, areas such as broadband, energy, mobile phones, travel money and some travel services may sit outside FCA regulation. Where this matters, we aim to make it clear.
How we create and verify our content
We want our content to help you make good financial and household decisions for your own circumstances.
Our editorial content is written by internal specialists, experienced writers or external experts. It is then reviewed before publication to check that it is clear, accurate and useful.
When creating or updating content, we may use:
product and pricing data from our own comparison services
data gathered from how customers use our website
provider information, policy documents, tariff details or terms and conditions
trusted third-party sources, such as the Office for National Statistics
regulator, government and consumer guidance, where relevant
insight from subject-matter experts
We aim to use the most reliable source available for the claim being made. For example, if we are explaining a consumer right or regulatory requirement, we will prioritise regulator, government or official consumer guidance. If we are explaining a product feature, we may check provider terms or market data.
Our editorial independence
Our editorial team decides what to write, how to explain it and what information customers need to make a better decision.
Commercial relationships do not decide our editorial views, our explanations, or the pros and cons we include in a guide. Where we have commercial relationships with providers, we are transparent about how MoneySuperMarket makes money.
Providers cannot pay to change our editorial opinion or to remove important information that customers need to know.
How we use experts
We work with internal and external experts who bring experience across personal finance, insurance, energy, household bills and consumer savings.
Our expert biographies explain their background, experience and areas of knowledge. Where an expert has reviewed or contributed to a guide, we aim to make that clear on the page.
If you have a question about our experts, you can contact us at content@moneysupermarket.com.
How we update our content
Before we publish content, we check facts, figures and data to make sure they are accurate at the time of publication.
We also review and refresh content when important information changes. This could include changes to:
regulation or consumer guidance
product rules, eligibility or availability
pricing, rates, fees or market conditions
provider terms and conditions
customer needs, common questions or switching processes
We show when content was published or last updated, so you can see how recently it has been reviewed.
Some information can change quickly, especially prices, rates, tariffs, provider availability and eligibility criteria. We aim to keep our content accurate and up to date, but you should always check the latest quote, policy document, tariff terms or provider information before making a decision.
Corrections and feedback
We do our best to make sure our content is accurate. If you spot something that looks wrong, unclear or out of date, please contact us at content@moneysupermarket.com.
When you get in touch, it helps if you include:
the page URL
what you think is incorrect or unclear
any supporting source or document, if you have one
We’ll review the issue and correct material errors as soon as practicable.
