The AA breakdown service is often referred to as the ‘fourth emergency service’. However, as a car insurance broker (also known as ‘AA motor insurance’), helping its users find cheap car insurance quotes, the AA has established itself as a major player among UK car insurance companies.

With specialist quotes available for classic car insurance and motorcycle insurance, the AA will search a panel of leading insurers to find the best available car insurance quote for you. It offers a 12.5 per cent online discount and according to a survey in July 2008, 88 per cent of people found that AA car insurance premiums were cheaper than those from their previous provider.

Among the reasons to choose the AA include a dedicated 24hr claim line, up to £50,000 in motor legal protection, a courtesy car while yours is repaired and up to £300 per person in medical expenses. If you take out AA car insurance you can also get 35 per cent off AA breakdown cover.

The AA also offers short-term car insurance. This is ideal if you need to borrow a vehicle or add on a temporary driver for a day or two and is also useful for unaccompanied vehicle demonstrations, driving courtesy cars and as immediate drive-away insurance if you have just bought a car. It is available for any insurance period lasting from one to 28 days, and is valid for drivers who are over 24 years of age or 23 as a secondary driver.
