I am extremely disappointed with MoneySuperMarket’s handling of my complaint regarding an energy switch application. My concern was that a hard credit search was carried out by the supplier following an application made through MoneySuperMarket, yet I was not clearly informed that a hard search affecting my credit file would be performed. The wording presented referred only to a generic “credit check”, with no clear distinction between a soft credit check and a hard credit search. When I raised my concerns, I was provided with generic responses explaining that energy suppliers may carry out credit checks. However, this completely missed the point of my complaint. My concern was not that credit checks exist, but that consumers should be clearly informed when a hard credit search will be recorded on their credit file before proceeding. What was particularly disappointing was the handling of my complaint. Rather than properly addressing the issue or escalating my concerns, my chat was closed despite the matter remaining unresolved. I was left feeling that my concerns were dismissed rather than investigated. Consumers deserve transparency when decisions may impact their credit file. A generic reference to a “credit check” is not the same as clearly informing customers that a hard credit search may be carried out. Unfortunately, my experience left me with little confidence in MoneySuperMarket’s complaint handling process or its commitment to ensuring consumers receive clear and transparent information before making financial decisions.
