Price and availability
Both the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro were available to buy immediately following their launch on 26 March 2019, and the 128GB version began retailing at £899. However as it’s been a few months since the launch you might be able to find it at a lower price.
Design and features
Huawei’s P30 Pro, as you might expect, looks and feels like a premium version of the basic P30. It has slimmer bezels and a smaller notch for the front camera, as well as a slightly curved screen – which, along with the phone’s rear, is covered in Corning Gorilla Glass.
There’s no headphone jack on the P30 Pro, while the P30 does have one, but the handset does come with a pair of USB-C earbuds in the box.
You can pick the P30 Pro up in a range of colours including amber sunrise, breathing crystal, aurora and black.
The P30 Pro has a 6.47-inch OLED display, its resolution the same as the P30 (2,340 x 1,080), however it offers Full HD+ as opposed to the QHD or 4K displays found on other smartphones.
The P30 Pro’s camera is its most impressive feature, the rear setup housing four lenses:
- A 40MP wide-angle f/1.6 lens
- A 20MP ultra wide-angle f/2.2 lens
- An 8MP telephoto f/3.4 lens
- A time-of-flight depth-sensing camera
Like previous generations of Huawei smartphones, the P30 uses Leica camera lenses to ensure a quality output.
You’ll be able to switch between 10MP and 40MP mode – while 40MP mode offers incredibly detailed shots at a professional standard, it does mean you won’t be able to use the impressive zoom options. You can on the 10MP option, with the camera capable of zooming in up to 50x.
The P30 Pro camera also takes clear, high-detail pictures in low lit situations, and its time-of-flight camera sensor allows you to capture plenty of depth.
The phone’s 32MP front camera gives you high-quality selfies with a number of special effects which you can use to enhance your portrait shots.
The Huawei P30 Pro also offers a number of other features to enhance your experience, including:
- Huawei’s SuperCharge capability
- Reverse wireless charging
- An on-screen fingerprint sensor
- A light sensor
- A proximity sensor
- An accelerometer
- A compass
- A gyroscope
Both the P30 and P30 Pro run on Huawei’s Kirin 980 processor, but while the P30 only comes in one storage option of 128GB, you’ll be able to choose from 128, 256 and 512GB on the P30 Pro.
The Pro also has 8GB Ram compared to the P30’s 6, and runs on a bigger battery with a capacity of 4,100mAh.
