*Average speeds are based on the download speeds of at least 50% of customers at peak time (8pm to 10pm). Speed can be affected by a range of technical and environmental factors. The speed you receive where you live may be lower than that listed above. You can check the estimated speed to your property prior to purchasing.

Fibre/cable services at your postcode are subject to availability. You can confirm availability on the provider's website.

Some broadband providers may increase monthly prices each year during your contract. Please refer to individual broadband provider's terms and conditions before signing up.

About Pop Telecom Broadband

Check out the best Pop Telecom broadband deals with MoneySuperMarket, and read on to find out more about what you can get from the provider.

Pop Telecom is a small broadband provider, based in Essex. Founded in 2009, it offers a wide range of broadband speeds, from ADSL deals right through to 944Mbps full-fibre internet. Its service uses the BT Openreach network, meaning it’s available for 98% of the UK in one form or another.

Pop Telecom’s key selling point is that it offers affordable, ultrafast internet. And its bundling options are flexible: you can get broadband on its own or with a landline, or add a mobile SIM too.

Why choose Pop Telecom broadband?

One good thing about Pop Telecom is that it has a very wide range of packages to choose from, so you’ll almost certainly find one that suits your household.

It includes ultrafast and full fibre broadband, up to an amazing 944Mbps, at competitive prices.

Pop Telecom uses the nationwide Openreach network to connect your home, so it’s widely available – but that does mean you’ll probably see similar packages available from other Openreach-based providers too.

Unlike some providers though, with Pop Telecom you don’t need a landline with your broadband – though it’s also one of a few companies that lets you take out a home phone on its own.

Pros of Pop Telecom

  • Wide variety of packages: There are several download speeds to choose from with Pop Telecom, ranging from 11Mbps all the way up to 944Mbps
  • Ultrafast download speeds: Most of which have the benefit of being full-fibre packages too
  • Good bundling options for phones: Grab a home phone or mobile bundle, including impressive anytime calls add-ons
  • High TrustPilot rating: Customers approve of their overall service. (Pop Telecom currently is too small to be included in Ofcom customer service reports)
  • Competitive pricing on full fibre: Costs compare well against bigger names on higher-end packages

Cons of Pop Telecom

  • Slower speeds can be expensive: Compared to competitors, Pop Telecom’s less speedy and packages tend to cost more
  • Packages are a bit confusing: Pop Telecom offers a lot of broadband packages – often using multiple names for options that all offer the same download speed
  • May not have a choice of contract length: Not all download speeds are available on 18-month contracts, and not all download speeds are available on 24-month contracts either
  • No TV: If you were hoping for premium telly, you’ll need to try a provider such as Sky, Virgin Media, NOW, or Vodafone

How fast is Pop Telecom broadband?

Pop Telecom’s list of packages is slightly confusing. But in essence, these are the download speeds you can get. The options available to you will depend on your postcode.

  • 11Mbps
  • 37-38Mbps
  • 67Mbps
  • 77Mbps
  • 109Mbps
  • 207Mbps
  • 525Mbps
  • 944Mbps

Some are (FTTP, or fibre-to-the-premises), while others are ADSL (basic broadband) or standard fibre (FTTC, or fibre-to-the-cabinet). In a few cases, the same download speed is available either as a full-fibre (FTTP) or standard fibre (FTTC) option – again, the exact one available to you can depend on your post code.

(Read more: What's the difference between FTTP and FTTC?)

What are Pop Telecom’s broadband bundles?

Pop Telecom offers broadband and phone deals. You can get just one of those on its own, or bundle them up. So your choices are:

  • Broadband only
  • Home phone only
  • Broadband + home phone
  • Mobile SIM

For some phone, you can choose between a standard landline that uses that classic copper telephone lines, or ‘digital phone’ which uses VoIP (voice over IP, i.e. a fibre optic internet-based line).

The VoIP option gives you clearer, more reliable calls, while the standard copper one costs less per month.

For mobile SIMs, you even have a choice between whether yours uses the Vodafone or O2 network.

Can I get broadband-only from Pop Telecom?

Pop Telecom’s standard and superfast broadband packages require a landline, as they use copper phone lines to complete the journey into your home. However, you don’t have to take out a phone package, which means you don’t have to make calls over the landline.

You can get broadband only Pop Telecom deals if you take out its ultrafast full fibre deals, as these don’t require a landline to be fitted, just fibre optic cables that run into the home.

If you don’t want Pop Telecom…

Many other broadband providers use the Openreach system, and therefore offer similar packages to Pop Telecom. They include BT, Sky, TalkTalk, Plusnet, and Vodafone.

Like the look of ultrafast speeds? You’ll find full-fibre and 100Mbps+ packages from the above Openreach providers – but if they’re not available in your area, try Virgin Media or an independent network such as Hyperoptic, Community Fibre, Cuckoo, or Gigaclear.

However, whether you can get full fibre – from any provider – will depend on your postcode. to see what’s available where you are.

Meanwhile, if you’re looking for low-cost broadband that doesn’t break the bank, sort the results by cost, and look out for budget-friendly providers such as TalkTalk, Plusnet, or NOW.
