*Average speeds are based on the download speeds of at least 50% of customers at peak time (8pm to 10pm). Speed can be affected by a range of technical and environmental factors. The speed you receive where you live may be lower than that listed above. You can check the estimated speed to your property prior to purchasing.

Fibre/cable services at your postcode are subject to availability. You can confirm availability on the provider's website.

Some broadband providers may increase monthly prices each year during your contract. Please refer to individual broadband provider's terms and conditions before signing up.

About Hyperoptic broadband

Hyperoptic runs its own independent broadband network. It’s all full fibre – meaning every inch of your connection, from the exchange to your home, is fibre optic. It can reach speeds of up to 1Gbps (1,000Mbps), a huge improvement from the 30-80Mbps speeds of standard fibre broadband, with a more reliable line to boot.

Hyperoptic’s network doesn’t quite reach everywhere. It only serves select postcodes in the UK, mostly apartment blocks, estates, and areas not as well served by larger broadband networks (such as BT Group’s Openreach and Virgin Media).

If you’re lucky enough to live in a Hyperoptic-connected area or building, you’ll be able to get its speedy broadband on a flexible basis at very reasonable prices.

Why choose Hyperoptic broadband?

The main reason you may choose Hyperoptic is simple: straightforward, fast, full fibre broadband. Its pricing is fair, it boasts satisfied customers, and you have a good amount of choice over what kind of package you go for.

The downside is that, as an independent network, getting connected can be a little more involved than switching between two Openreach-based providers. You’re also a little limited when it comes to bundling options.

  • Pros of Hyperoptic broadband

    • Fast speeds:
Hyperoptic offers incredibly fast download speeds of up to 1Gbps – some of the fastest currently available in the UK

    • Full fibre:

The entire network is full fibre, or fibre-to-the-premises, meaning the entire line is fibre optic, right from the exchange to your router. That means not just fast speeds but a more reliable line with less lag too

    • No landline necessary:

You can get Hyperoptic broadband on its own, without having to take out a landline too

    • Competitive pricing:

You may even find that an ultrafast package from Hyperoptic is cheaper than a slower one from other providers

    • Choose your contract length:

24-month, 12-month, and 30-day rolling packages are all available, giving you choice over how long you want to commit to Hyperoptic. Contract lengths of less than 18 months are a rarity in UK broadband, so this is a real boon

    • Connects under-served areas:

Hyperoptic specialises in delivering speedy broadband to postcodes that may have been missed by bigger networks – meaning it may be the fastest provider available to you

    • Satisfied customers:

The provider boasts good reviews from customers and an excellent Trustpilot rating

  • Cons of Hyperoptic broadband

    • Not widely available:
Hyperoptic’s network is very limited, so it isn’t available to very many of us. And if you move out of a Hyperoptic-connected home, you may not be able to take your package with you to your new home – which could make you liable to pay early termination fees

    • Installation is a bit tricky:

Compared to most providers, installing Hyperoptic is a bit more involved. You’ll likely need an engineer to come and visit, and drill a hole in your wall to install a box. It could take up to an hour

    • Not the best router:

The included router is adequate and does deliver fast speeds to your devices, but it’s not the best, and lacks in few features that other providers’ routers have

    • Not many bundling options:

Unlike with some providers, you can’t, for instance, bundle a TV package with your broadband. And while you can add a landline, it costs extra

How fast is Hyperoptic broadband?

Put simply, Hyperoptic is very fast indeed. You can choose between these minimum download speeds:

  • 50Mbps: Entry level full fibre broadband at a reasonable price. It’s around same speed you’d get from standard fibre from other providers, and great for average sized households that need to get online

  • 150Mbps: A good speed boost for medium sized homes, ideal if you work from home or go online a lot and just want that extra reliability of high speeds

  • 500Mbps: An ultrafast package that lets you download big files in just a few minutes, make seamless video calls in high quality, and stream TV in 4K without a hitch

  • 1Gbps (1,000Mbps): The fastest Hyperoptic broadband of all, for large households with lots of devices that don’t want to compromise speed. This is for those who really rely on top-quality internet for work, gaming, streaming, or connecting lots of gadgets

Note that the 150Mbps package and above are ‘symmetrical’, meaning download and upload speeds are roughly the same. That means you’re able to host high-resolution video calls or streams, send or upload large files in an instant, and reduce lag when you’re gaming online.

What are Hyperoptic’s bundles?

Hyperoptic keeps it simple, only offering two key services:

  • Full-fibre broadband

  • Home phone

You can choose between 24-month, 12-month, and 30-day monthly rolling contracts. The longer the commitment you make, the less you can expect to pay.

Hyperoptic also offers social tariffs if you’re claiming certain benefits (including Universal Credit), and special .

Does Hyperoptic offer broadband-only options?

Yes it does. When you take out a Hyperoptic deal, you can either choose a broadband-only contract with no phone line, or add a home phone service too.

This is because unlike standard fibre optic broadband, Hyperoptic doesn’t require a landline to connect your home to the internet. So it’s an optional extra.

If you can’t get Hyperoptic…

Since Hyperoptic is only available in select areas, there’s a good chance you may miss out. But the good news is that ultrafast speeds – and full fibre internet – are available from a huge range of nationwide providers these days. They include BT, Virgin Media, Sky, TalkTalk, Vodafone, and many more.

You may even be served by a different full fibre provider, many of which operate on a local basis – such as Community Fibre, Fibrus, and Cuckoo.

Don’t need the speed? Standard (fibre-to-the-cabinet) fibre broadband is available just about everywhere in the UK. You can save money by getting it from a budget-friendly provider, such as TalkTalk, Plusnet, NOW, or Shell.
