Availability and price
The Samsung Galaxy S10 first went on sale in March 2019. At launch it cost from £799, but if you shop around for the best price on a Samsung Galaxy S10 now (November 2020), you can pick one up for under £500.
Samsung’s Galaxy S10 sports a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, with a QHD+ resolution, that takes up almost the entire face of the phone.
There’s no notch cut out of the screen; for the S10 – the 10th edition of its flagship Galaxy range – Samsung replaced this with a laser-cut hole on the top right of the screen that gives the display its name: Infinity-O.
While the screen might be bigger, the size of the handset itself is only slightly bigger than the S9 – it measures at 149.9 x 70.4 x 7.8mm and weighs in at 157g, making it both thinner and lighter than its predecessor.
The Galaxy S10 is available in:
- Prism black
- Prism blue
- Prism white
- Prism green
- Prism silver
- Cardinal red
The Galaxy S10’s rear camera is set into a small bump on the back of the phone and comes with three lenses – the first is a regular 12MP lens, the second is a 12MP optically zoomed telephoto lens, and the third is an ultra-wide 16MP lens.
The front camera contains a single 10MP lens with dual autofocus capabilities, while the phone is also capable of recording in HDR10+ and using Digital Video Stabilisation to make smooth Ultra HD videos.
Technically speaking, the Galaxy S10 was a big step up from its predecessor, the S9.
Its capabilities have now been surpassed by more recent Samsung releases, such as the Galaxy S20, but the S10 remains an impressive piece of kit.
Highlights include the invisible ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the front of the phone and the wireless PowerShare feature that allows you to QI charge other people’s phones using the back of the handset.
The S10 also benefits from fast chipsets – either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 or Exynos 9820 depending where you live – and comes with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 512GB of storage (plus additional external storage if required).
Battery-wise, the S10 packs 3,400mAh – enough to go all day. And in terms of connectivity, the phone includes Wi-Fi 6 technology that could boost your upload speed by 20%.
