The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus takes many of its cues from the previous year’s Galaxy S21 Plus, such as a similar design and triple camera set-up. However, it’s now constructed from metal and glass, giving the phone a beautifully premium finish.

At 6.6 inches, the screen is slightly smaller than the previous year’s 6.7-inch display. But with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1,750 nits of brightness, it’s bright and works like a dream when rendering games or video.

It packs the Exynos 2200 chipset, as well as the newest version of Google’s Android operating system. There’s support for 45W fast charging, too.

It also comes with 5G as standard, so you can access the fastest mobile networks when out and about.

Availability and price

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus was released in March 2022. At launch, prices were £949 for the 128GB model and £999 for 256GB.

How good is the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus’ design and display?

Samsung has stuck with a tried and tested look with the Galaxy S22 Plus. That means an edge-to-edge screen, raised rear camera bump and a small hole at the top of the display to accommodate the front-facing camera.

However, this time around, there’s been a change in the materials used. The premium metal edges and glass back are a big jump on the S21’s plasticky finish, and overall the phone looks and feels wonderfully sleek.

The 6.6-inch AMOLED screen is 0.1 inches smaller than the previous year’s Galaxy S21, making it ever so slightly easier to handle. It boasts a 120Hz refresh rate and a maximum brightness of 1,750 nits (the same as its top-end sibling, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra).

The triple lens camera on the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus is a hugely exciting proposition.

Its main 50MP lens features a f/1.8 aperture and is teamed with a 10MP ultrawide lens with f/2.4 and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.2. Meanwhile, the front-facing camera clocks in at 10MP.

What are the key differences between the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and the Samsung Galaxy S21 Plus?

The Galaxy S22 Plus is broadly similar to the Galaxy S21 Plus. It looks almost identical, though it has a slightly smaller screen and it’s constructed from metal and glass, rather than plastic.

It also features newer Samsung chipset smarts in the form of the Exynos 2200. It supports fast charging up to 45W and has a new camera set up that looks set to provide even better images.

The battery, at 4,500mAh is slightly smaller than that 4,800mAh effort in the Galaxy S21 Plus, but that doesn’t necessarily mean shorter battery life.

How does the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus compare to other flagship handsets in the UK market?

To start off with, the Galaxy S22 Plus was released alongside two other models: the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The base S22 is largely the same as the S22 Plus, just in a smaller frame. However, the standout of the series is the S22 Ultra, which features astonishing photography capabilities and S Pen support.

Other flagship phones launched in 2022 include Apple’s MoneySuperMarket 14 series and Google’s Pixel 7 handsets (both of which went on sale later that year).

But it is unquestionably one of 2022’s best smartphones, with a standout camera, stunning screen and excellent internal hardware.

Plus, it’s well futureproofed, with Samsung promising four years of software updates and five years of security patches. So, if you do decide to upgrade, you’ll be able to comfortably hold onto it for a good while.
