Fortis Life Insurance

Based in Hampshire, Fortis Insurance Limited is part of the larger Fortis group of companies, a leader in financial services in both Belgium and Luxembourg. The company has a presence in more than 50 countries with a workforce of more than 50,000 and a range of products including Fortis life insurance (also known as ‘Fortis life assurance’ and ‘Fortis term assurance’). At the beginning of October 2008, the company was nationalised but Fortis Life managing director Martin Werth confirmed the safety of the UK business.

There are two life insurance products to choose between from the company – Your Life Plan and Real Life Cover.

The Your Life Plan from Fortis is effectively a menu product in which you can choose from a range of cover options. You could buy just one aspect of cover if that’s all you need – or you could buy the complete package. There are a number of aspects to this cover including term assurance, critical illness cover, family income benefit and income protection. If you feel taking out all aspects of cover is too expensive, Fortis offers temporary disability as an option on its critical illness package.

Real Life Cover meanwhile combines life insurance, income protection and limited critical illness cover into one plan. The company claims that by only covering the things that are most likely to stop you earning a living or caring for your family, you will pay less than you would if you bought life insurance alongside traditional income protection or critical illness cover.
