When it came out in 2019, the iPhone 11 was a solid phone. With its excellent camera, good battery life and reliable performance, it was – and still is – a great device for everyday use.
However, as expected with an “older” phone, it’s missing a few features found in the more recent flagships. For example, it lacks 5G connectivity. So, if you live in an area where 5G is available, you won’t be able to use those ultrafast speeds.
More recently released Apple handsets also come with a host of new upgrades, giving you better quality images, optical zoom and more creative control. Later handsets also feature faster, more powerful processors.
Nevertheless, given the iPhone 11’s now discounted price, it’s a decent option if you need an affordable phone. You can no longer buy it outright from Apple, but plenty of other retailers sell brand new or refurbished models. And if you choose to get it on a pay-monthly contract, you can spread the cost.
And with Apple dedicated to providing software updates up to five years after launch, the iPhone 11 can still support the most recent operating system, iOS 17.
How much is the iPhone 11?
The iPhone 11, along with the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, was released on 20 September 2019.
At the time of release, it was priced from £729. Now, at the time of writing (September 2023), you can find it at a much more affordable price. Apple no longer sells it, but you can find it from other retailers. Contracts from mobile networks start from £19 per month.

Just use our tool at the top of the page to search Apple iPhone 11 contracts. Because the iPhone 11 is quite old now, you can snap it up at a more affordable price.
The iPhone 11’s design
The iPhone 11’s frame is smoothly curved and rounded at the corners, finished with a glossy glass back. Its sides are made from aluminium, while the 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max use stainless steel instead.
It also marks the first time Apple employed a square rear camera block in the upper-left corner – the iPhone 12 and 13 sport this design too.
It comes in six colourways: Black, White, Purple, Yellow, Green and Product Red.
The iPhone 11’s display
The iPhone 11 more or less follows the same blueprint as 2017’s iPhone X, which marked a significant turning point for Apple at the time.
With the same edge-to-edge display – save for the camera notch at the top – and use of Liquid Retina HD technology, it’s a stunning screen. The 6.1-inch LCD screen sports an 828 x 1792-pixel resolution, with a maximum brightness of 625 nits.
The iPhone 11’s camera
The iPhone 11 features a dual 12MP rear camera system, with one 12MP wide lens at f/1.8 and one 12MP ultra-wide camera lens at f/2.4. This dual camera system comes equipped with Apple’s excellent Night Mode for low-light shots, as well an improved Smart HDR system and 4K video recording at 60 frames per second.
Other than the additional telephoto lens found on the Pro models, the camera system is identical and should function the same. And, indeed, it’s still a very serviceable camera that’s great for casual snaps.
The front camera is also 12MP, and comes with an improved Face ID – Apple’s own facial recognition system.
The iPhone 11’s battery life
Packing a 3,110mAh battery, the iPhone 11 lasts up to an hour longer than the iPhone XR. It’ll comfortably see you through the day, even with heavy use.
It supports wireless charging, but not Apple’s MagSafe standard.

Is the iPhone 11 worth buying in 2025?
Having been released back in 2019, the iPhone 11 is “old” – by smartphone standards, anyway. Nevertheless, it’s still a great and very capable device, even if not the most up to date. For example, it doesn’t support 5G, although it still receives Apple’s latest software update, iOS 17.
Is now a good time to buy the iPhone 11?
If you can’t stomach the sky-high prices of the most recent iPhones, now is the ideal time to snap up an older Apple flagship for cheap.
Will the iPhone 11 drop in price?
Given that prices tend to drop when Apple releases its latest iPhone, the iPhone 11 has already undergone some significant discounts since its launch in 2019.
At the time of writing, it’s more than a couple hundred pounds cheaper than its launch price. However, Apple no longer sells it – you'll need to find it from another retailer.
Should I upgrade to the 2025 model?
If you’re keen to get your hands on the most up-to-date tech, it’s probably better to upgrade to a more recent iPhone model, such as the iPhone 15.
