MoneySuperMarket - Based on 1.84 million quotes ran on MoneySuperMarket between January 2016 - December 2017 inclusive including an element of contents cover. Contents theft rate calculated using 5 years claim history for theft of contents (rate per 1,000 quotes)
Local outstanding schools were drawn from Ofsted data for England. This was not available for Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales - for cities in these countries we analysed the total number of secondary schools in these cities divide by the avergage ratio of outstanding schools derived from data from the whole of England.
Parks were identified using both the Google Maps API and council data in tandem.
Job opportunities were found on Indeed.co.uk by searching by city, as at 27 February 2018. Average salary and housing prices are based on 2017 Government data.
Burglary hotspots were identified from MoneySuperMarket’s data on contents insurance quotes over the past 5 years. The rate is the number of claims per 1000 quotes.
Data for each metric was assigned a score between 1-10 from worst to best, and an average of these scores weighted in favour of the more relevant metrics provided a means to rank the cities researched.
