Availability and price
The Samsung Galaxy S22 is available now.
It was released in March 2022 alongside two other handsets: the Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.
At launch, the S22 cost £769 for the 128GB version, or £819 for 256GB.
Of course, since some time has passed since it launched – and it’s been superseded by the Samsung Galaxy S23 – you can now grab the S22 for a much cheaper price. You can still purchase it outright, or spread the cost out further with a pay-monthly contract from a range of networks and retailers.
How good is the Samsung Galaxy S22 design and display?
The Samsung Galaxy S22 takes its design cues from the previous year’s S21. That means the same sleek, curved metal edges, an edge-to-edge display and a small hole up top to house the selfie camera.
Round the back, a triple lens camera setup dominates. The rest of the back is glossy Gorilla Glass Victus+, an ultra-strong material that won’t crack or break any time soon.
You can get the S22 in black, white, pink gold, green, graphite, sky blue, violet, cream, or purple – though some of those colours are exclusive to the Samsung website or certain regions.
As for the display, you’re looking at a stunner. This AMOLED screen measures a modest 6.1 inches, with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a dynamic refresh rate up to 120Hz. Those are decent specs – the resolution is as high as some laptops and TVs, and that high refresh rate means a smooth experience when you’re playing games, watching video, or just scrolling and reading.
How good is the Samsung Galaxy S22 camera?
The camera on the Samsung Galaxy S22 features a trio of lenses. The main 50MP lens packs a f/1.8 aperture, with a 10MP ultrawide lens with f/2.4 and a 12MP telephoto lens with f/2.2 rounding out the imaging package.
This is the same camera as that on the Galaxy S22 Plus. The main 50MP shooter is a major jump on the S21’s 12 MP lens, with the promise of even better pictures, especially in low light.
The selfie camera clocks in at 10Mp and features 4K video shooting, perfect for fans of TikTok and Instagram. The main camera offers 8K and HDR10+ video shooting, meaning clips look bright and clear no matter the conditions.
Is the Samsung Galaxy S22 good for video?
The S22 is excellent for video. It can shoot up to 8K resolution at 24 frames per second on the main camera lens – or 4K at up to 60fps on the other cameras.
It’s also got some neat videography software to make your films pop. Super Steady video tech makes your footage nice and smooth, while Pro Video mode gives you in-depth control over your camera – including the ability to adjust shutter speed, ISO, white balance, and more.
The Samsung Galaxy S22 is a great option if you like to stream using your phone, or post videos to YouTube or TikTok. Especially as you can choose between the main, telephoto, ultrawide, or selfie cameras and still record in stunning 4K.

What are the key differences between the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S21?
The key difference between the Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S21 is found inside.
The Exynos 2200 chipset is faster and more impressive than the processor in the S21, meaning it works at an even more rapid rate.
Throw in newer Android 12 software and a beefed up triple lens camera and it’s a solid, if not overly spectacular jump on the previous model.
How does the Samsung Galaxy S22 compare to other flagship handsets on the UK market?
The S22 launched with two siblings. The Samsung Galaxy S22+ features much of the same specs, but has a larger size – the display measures 6.6 inches. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, meanwhile, is much more high-powered than the other two: it packs better cameras, longer battery life, and the option of up to 1TB of internal storage. Of course, that also means a higher price.
Its iPhone equivalent, released in the previous autumn, is the iPhone 13. In terms of specs and capabilities, there isn’t a huge amount of difference – it comes down to whether you prefer Android or Apple.
MoneySuperMarket’s expert rating: 4.5/5
As a standard flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S22 is fantastic. It’s a perfect all-rounder for those who want a dependable, good quality handset – whether you use your phone for snapping photos, creating content, playing games, making video calls, watching films on the go, or simply enjoying Instagram in crisp quality.
And with up-to-date tech and software support from Samsung for years to come, it’s a great investment that won’t go obsolete for quite some time.
It lacks the power and mega specs of its sibling, the S22 Ultra, but that’s fine – most of us simply don’t need that level of tech.
