Availability and Price
The Google Pixel 4a was released August 2020, with an initial retail price of £349. Contract deals for the Google Pixel 4a are available on MoneySuperMarket.
The Google Pixel 4a comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 screen, making it both tougher and more scratch resistant. This is accompanied by a textured plastic back and frame.
It doesn’t have the aluminium finish of the Google Pixel 5, but still provides a feeling of quality at this mid-range price.
The fingerprint sensor for unlocking this phone can be found on the rear for easy reach and additional security, while the camera is top left, familiar to the whole Google Pixel range.
The Pixel 4a weighs 143g, which is lighter than both the Google Pixel 4a 5G and the Google Pixel 5. Dimensions are 144 x 69.4 x 8.2 mm. It’s also only available in black.
The Google Pixel 4a has a 12.2MP rear camera that provides autofocus and optical image stabilisation. However, it doesn’t have the ultra-wide lens that the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5 offer.
The rear camera does provide LED flash, Auto-HDR and panorama to provide you with high quality photos, as well as exceptional night sight to make creating shots easy at any time of day.
The 24mm wide front-facing camera is 8MP and there’s 1080p at 30fsp for videoing.
The 3,140mAh adaptive battery means that the phone learns your most used apps to reduce power to ones you rarely use, meaning the battery should easily last 24hrs.
The 128GB of storage offered with all phones in this range is also complemented with unlimited storage at high quality at Google photos.
Does Google Pixel 4a have Gorilla Glass?
Yes. The Google Pixel 4a has Gorilla Glass 3 meaning it has better scratch resistant and an enhanced ability to resist any damage that may weaken the screen.
Is the Google Pixel 4a waterproof?
No, it’s not water resistant so shouldn’t be exposed to liquids. However, if this is a dealbreaker for you, look to the Google Pixel 5 that is both dust and water resistant up to 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes.
What’s the difference between Google Pixel 4 and 4a?
The Google Pixel 4a is a slightly larger phone with a bigger battery of 3,140mAh compared to the 2,800 mAh offered by the Google Pixel 4. The 4a doesn’t offer the dual rear camera that the earlier model does, and while the Pixel 4a also doesn’t have the glass back of the Pixel 4, it does have a durable plastic back and a Gorilla Glass screen.
Does the Google Pixel 4a have a fingerprint sensor?
Yes, the fingerprint sensor for unlocking this phone can be found on the back, providing extra security yet still within easy reach to unlock with one hand.
