Eye-watering download speeds, clever Wi-Fi, hundreds of inclusive calling minutes… If you like your broadband done superfast with a side of home phone, Virgin Media is the provider du jour. Here’s what’s on the menu.
*Average speeds are based on the download speeds of at least 50% of customers at peak time(8pm to 10pm). Speed can be affected by a range of technical and environmental factors. The speed you receive where you live may be lower than that listed above. You can check the estimated speed to your property prior to purchasing.
Why choose a Virgin Media broadband and phone package?
For the fastest widely available broadband in the country, you’ll want Virgin Media.
With download speeds at hundreds of megabits per second, it’s blisteringly fast – and unlike most providers doesn’t require you to take a landline. Although you can still get one from Virgin Media, if you prefer.
You’ll also get some top-notch tech in Virgin Media routers, with Intelligent WiFi that optimises itself to suit your home, devices, and usage.
That’s alongside free online security from F-Secure SAFE.
Meanwhile, its home phone packages come with a huge range of options compared to most providers. Whether you want anytime calls, international minutes, or specific call features, Virgin has options for you.
Virgin Media’s bundles can be a little confusing, however. Some broadband packages are only available with TV added on, some are cheaper with a phone line and some without… and so on. So, let’s break down exactly what your options are if you’re looking for a simple broadband and home phone combo.
Virgin Media broadband
Start off by choosing your broadband speed. Your choices are:
- M50 – with average download speeds of 54Mbps
- M100 – 108Mbps
- M200 – 213Mbps
- M350 – 362Mbps
- M500 – 516Mbps
- Gig1 – 1Gbps (1,000Mbps)
Bear in mind that Gig1, Virgin Media’s lightning-fast gigabit broadband, is only in a few select areas.
There’s one more broadband speed available too: M600, with average download speeds of 630Mbps. However, it’s exclusive to the Ultimate Oomph Bundle, which includes TV.
Virgin Media home phone
Once you’ve chosen your broadband, you can pick a phone plan for your landline to go with it. And you have lots of choice:
- No phone line (broadband only)
- Talk Weekends – included as standard in all phone packages
- Talk More Weekends
- Talk More Evenings and Weekends
- Talk More Anytime
- Talk More International Anytime
On top of your phone plan, you can also add your choice of ‘call plans’. These give you extra bundles of minutes to landlines, mobiles, international numbers, and so on. They’re useful if, say, you want to make a couple of calls to international or mobile numbers on weekdays, but not enough to spring for a bigger phone plan.
Then, you can add sets of call features – such as call barring and three-way calling.
We recommend using our comparison tables to get the measure of your Virgin Media broadband and phone options. This’ll make comparing costs nice and straightforward.
Can I get Virgin Media broadband and phone deals in my area?
Speedy gigabit broadband is still in the relatively early stages of rollout, however. That means Gig1, the fastest Virgin broadband of all, is only available in a few select areas. (You’ll find the same with all broadband providers right now, too.)

What other broadband packages does Virgin Media offer?
No need for a home phone? Virgin Media is one of a few broadband providers to offer broadband on its own, without a landline. With the exception of M600, all packages can be installed as broadband-only deals.
On the other hand, if you want the whole shebang, take a look at Virgin’s Big Bundles. These give you a combo of broadband, home phone, and TV in a ready-made bundle, with up to 230+ TV channels.
Or, you can grab a simple broadband and TV combo, with no phone line, which includes up to 190+ channels.
And finally, you can also add Volt to your bundle – Volt being an O2 SIM-only mobile plan.
