What does the Samsung Galaxy S21 have to offer?

The standard version of Samsung Galaxy S21 is the most wallet-friendly. But that’s not to say that Samsung has skimped on features.

Proof positive is its triple camera, which teams an ultrawide 12-megapixel lens with an a 12-megapixel standard and a 64-megapixel telephoto lens.

But that’s not all. It’s also home to a 6.2-inch screen that takes up almost the entire front of the phone. And comes with 5G connectivity, a large, long-life battery and a plenty of power.

Design and processor

Not too much has changed looks wise when it comes to the flagship S21, apart from the shiny finish of the S20 being replaced by a more sophisticated matte one. Four colours are available, and you’ll recognise the three-lens camera cluster on the back, although this blends into the phone now instead of jutting out. 

The S21 and S21 Ultra feature a glass front and back, however the S21 uses a glass-mimicking plastic, presumably to cut costs.

All handsets in the S21 series come with 5G and they all have the Exynos 2100 processor, meaning they’re Samsung’s fastest performing phones so far. 

Screen

The Galaxy S21 has a 6.2-inch display with a super-high refresh rate of 120Hz for the slickest video and animations. 

Samsung’s new flagship gets a flat instead of a curved screen. The Full HD+ resolution has been dialled back from Quad HD on the S20.

Camera

Both the Galaxy S21 and S21 Plus have a 12-megapixel rear wide-angle lens, 64-megapixel telephoto lens and 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens.

These are the same specs as the S20 and S20 Plus, however, improved AI capabilities and the new chipset should guarantee better image quality. On the front of the phone, you’ll find a 10MP camera, perfect for a selfie or two.

All handsets in the S21 range shoot 8K video and new functions like the Director’s View mode means you can get even more creative. It allows you to shoot from the front and back camera at the same time, so you get the reaction as well as the action.

Battery

The base Galaxy S21 has kept the same battery capacity as the S20. The 4,000mAh battery should easily see you through a day between charges. 

Samsung no longer provides chargers with new phones; following in Apple’s footsteps pushing users to recycle old tech.

There are, however, a range of wired and wireless chargers sold separately.

Is the S21 waterproof?

Phones in the S21 range are water resistant, rather than waterproof. All three come with an IP68 rating, meaning they will survive up to half an hour in up to 1.5 metres of water.
