With Scottish Power, you get boiler cover from one of the UK’s big energy suppliers, with plans ranging from simple, everyday deals to more complete offerings.

Key takeaways

  • Scottish Power offers four boiler cover plans, ranging from basic coverage for the boiler only to more comprehensive options that include heating, annual servicing, and 24/7 support.

  • The basic plans are affordable, making them suitable for budget-conscious customers, especially those already with Scottish Power.

  • There is a 30-day waiting period before you can make a claim, which is longer than many competitors.

What is Scottish Power boiler cover?

Energy provider Scottish Power’s boiler cover is available in four different packages. The most basic, boiler only Boiler Insurance protects you from boiler fails on a rolling monthly plan, while its Boiler and Radiator Insurance also protects your heating as well.

Meanwhile, its Boiler and Service Care plan includes 24/7 support and an annual service, with Boiler, Radiator and Service Care also protecting heating in an emergency.

Is Scottish Power boiler cover any good?

The basic, boiler only deal is very affordable, which makes Scottish Power worth considering if you’re on a budget. And if your energy is already supplied by Scottish Power, you may prefer the chance to get everything from the same provider.

Unfortunately, Scottish Power struggles with some quite poor customer service reviews, with a very low rating on TrustPilot.

Its packages are not as comprehensive as some rivals. The likes of HomeServe and EDF Energy offer home emergency cover in their top end plans, while the basic deals here, while more affordable than many, do not include 24/7 call out or an annual service.

What's included?

All Scottish Power boiler cover plans come with:

  • Replacement boiler worth up to £750 if required (installation fee not included)

The four plans fall into two distinct camps. The Boiler Insurance package and Boiler and Radiator Insurance comes with:

  • Up to £1,500 in breakdown cover and repairs

  • A rolling plan that you can have as long as you need

  • £99 excess (with other options available)

The Boiler and Service Care package and Boiler, Radiator and Service Care package come with:

  • Annual service

  • 24/7 helpline

  • 12 month plan

  • Online maintenance tips

The radiator plans also come with heating protection.

Pros and cons of Scottish Power boiler cover

Pros:

  • Broad range of deals

  • Rolling contracts for cheaper products

Cons:

  • Pricier deals don’t include home emergency cover

  • No 24/7 helpline for cheaper plans

  • No annual service on budget deals

  • Can’t claim within first 30 days

Does Scottish Power offer other types of cover?

As well as boiler cover, Scottish Power also offers plumbing and drains insurance and appliance care.

How soon can you make a claim with Scottish Power?

According to Scottish Power’s terms and conditions, customers cannot make a claim within the first 30 days of the policy becoming active.

That’s a longer length of time than many boiler cover providers.

Does Scottish Power carry out boiler servicing?

Yes. However, servicing is only included with its top end plans: Boiler and Service Care; and Boiler, Radiator and Service Care.

How do I get in touch with Scottish Power?

Scottish Power’s boiler cover is provided by Domestic & General, which you can call on 0800 027 7788.

Who else offers boiler cover?
