Founded in 2016, Igloo is a brand new challenger energy company based in Southampton. It works by analysing your consumption on smart meters and adjusting your tariff accordingly. It also recommends the right time to change your boiler and white goods.

Igloo service is largely based in its smartphone app, which is available on iOS and Android.

Cheap Igloo Energy tariffs

Igloo Energy only offers one tariff: the Igloo Pioneer. Their reasoning for lack of choice? Igloo Energy believes energy should be simple and that customers benefit from not having to constantly search for the best deal on the market.

Igloo Pioneer is a variable tariff, meaning prices will increase and decrease depending on the prices on the wholesale energy market. 

Customers are protected by Ofgem’s energy price cap, which limits the price a supplier can charge per unit of electricity and gas. 

Igloo Energy assures new and existing customers that they are always getting its best rate and that there are no exit fees and they will always be given at least 30 days’ notice before prices change.

Igloo Energy Economy 7 and Economy 10 tariffs

Igloo Energy does not support Economy 7 or Economy 10 meters, at the time of writing.

Economy 7 tariffs provide cheaper electricity for seven hours during the night. Economy 10 offers cheaper rates for seven hours at night, plus three cheaper off-peak hours during the day.

Igloo Energy dual fuel tariffs

If you’re looking for simplicity with your energy bills, a dual fuel tariff could be your best bet. 

Choosing to get your gas and electricity from Igloo Energy through the Igloo Pioneer tariff means you’ll receive a single bill that’s easier to keep track of.

Business energy with Igloo Energy

Igloo Energy does not offer any business energy tariffs.

Igloo Energy smart home

Igloo Energy’s mission is to make its ‘customers’ homes smarter, more efficient and cost less to run’.

What happens if my energy supplier goes bust?

It is very rare for an energy supplier to go out of business, but it happened in 2016, with the collapse of GB Energy.

As happened then, any future collapse and its consequences would be managed by Ofgem, the energy market regulator. Thanks to Ofgem’s safety net, even if your supplier goes out of business, your gas and/or electricity supply will never be cut off or interrupted.

All UK energy suppliers are regulated by Ofgem.

In addition to guaranteeing continuity of supply, Ofgem works to move customers of a failed company to the best possible deal, with any debit/credit transferred to a new supplier that is chosen to inherit the business.
