What current accounts does Revolut offer?

Revolut offers app-based current accounts with a choice of free and paid plans. Its main UK personal plans are Standard, Plus, Premium, Metal and Ultra. Customers can also access related features such as Joint Accounts, Revolut Pro for freelancers, Kids & Teens accounts and savings products.

  • Revolut Standard

Revolut Standard is the free plan. It includes everyday app-based banking, payments, budgeting tools, virtual cards, currency exchange within plan limits and access to features such as Pockets and spending analytics. Revolut says Standard has no monthly plan fee.

  • Revolut Plus

Revolut Plus is a paid plan for customers who want extra everyday benefits, such as higher limits and purchase protection. Revolut lists Plus at £3.99 a month or £40 a year.

  • Revolut Premium

Revolut Premium is designed for customers who want more features from their account, including higher savings rates, brand subscriptions, higher fee-free ATM limits and no fair usage limit on weekday currency exchange. Revolut lists Premium at £7.99 a month or £80 a year.

  • Revolut Metal

Revolut Metal is aimed at customers who want more travel and lifestyle benefits. It includes a metal card, higher fee-free ATM withdrawal limits, selected travel cover, global data and included subscriptions. Revolut lists Metal at £14.99 a month or £140 a year.

  • Revolut Ultra

Revolut Ultra is Revolut’s top-tier personal plan. It includes premium benefits such as a platinum-plated card, unlimited airport lounge access, monthly global data, cancellation cover, selected travel insurance benefits and higher savings rates. Revolut lists Ultra at £55 a month or £540 a year.

  • Revolut Joint Account

Revolut also offers Joint Accounts for customers who want to manage shared spending and bills with another person. You’ll need a personal Revolut account before opening a Joint Account, and terms apply.

Which Revolut current account is right for me?

The right Revolut current account depends on how you plan to use it and whether the paid plan benefits are worth the monthly fee.

Revolut Standard may suit you if you want a free app-based account for everyday spending, budgeting, payments and basic currency features.

Revolut Plus could be worth considering if you want a lower-cost paid plan with added purchase protection and improved everyday limits.

Revolut Premium may suit you if you regularly travel, exchange currencies or want extra lifestyle benefits such as subscriptions and higher fee-free ATM withdrawal limits.

Revolut Metal could be a better fit if you want more travel benefits, higher limits, a metal card and extra rewards.

Revolut Ultra is likely to be most suitable for frequent travellers or customers who expect to use premium benefits such as unlimited airport lounge access, monthly global data, partner subscriptions and cancellation cover.

Before choosing a paid Revolut plan, compare the monthly or annual fee with the benefits you’re likely to use.

Yes. Revolut offers different perks and rewards depending on the plan you choose.

  • RevPoints

Revolut customers can earn RevPoints through everyday card spending. These can be used for travel-related rewards, such as air miles and stays discounts. The earn rate varies by plan, from 1 point per £10 spent on Standard and Plus, up to 1 point per £1 spent on Ultra.

Selected paid plans include partner or brand subscriptions. Revolut’s comparison page lists included subscriptions on Premium, Metal and Ultra, with the available subscriptions varying by plan and terms.

Insurance terms, exclusions and limits apply.

  • Savings rates

Revolut offers savings products, with rates that can vary by plan and balance. Its plan comparison page shows higher savings rates on some paid plans, although rates are variable and can change.

  • Revolut Pro cashback

Revolut Pro is available for freelancers and includes cashback on eligible Pro card payments. Cashback rates vary by plan, from 0.4% on Standard and Plus up to 1% on Ultra. Fees apply for some acquiring features.

Am I eligibile to open a Revolut current account?

To open a Revolut personal account, you must usually be over 18 and a legal resident of a supported country. Revolut also says 16 and 17 year olds who are legal residents of the UK can open a Revolut account, although some products, such as trading, crypto and credit, may not be available to them.

To open and use a Revolut account, you’ll normally need to provide:

  • A valid mobile phone number

  • A valid email address

  • Personal information such as your address, date of birth, full name and citizenship

  • A valid government-issued identity document

What overdraft options does Revolut offer?

Revolut does not appear to offer a standard arranged overdraft as part of its UK personal current account plans.

  • No arranged overdraft

Revolut’s UK personal account plans are mainly designed for app-based spending, budgeting, transfers and currency features, rather than overdraft borrowing.

  • Switches do not transfer overdrafts

If you switch an account to Revolut, Revolut says any overdraft you have with your previous provider will not be transferred.

  • Compare if you need borrowing

If access to an arranged overdraft is important to you, it’s worth comparing Revolut with other current accounts before applying.

Can I switch to a Revolut current account?

Yes. Revolut says its Switch Service helps customers move an existing bank account to Revolut while keeping payments running smoothly. You can choose a full switch, which moves your payments and remaining balance to Revolut and closes your old account, or a partial switch, which moves payments while keeping your old account open.

Revolut says full account switches are covered by the Current Account Switch Service guarantee and are completed within seven days. Eligible payments include incoming payments such as salary, pension or benefits, Direct Debits and scheduled payments.

Debit card subscriptions and any overdraft with your old provider will not be transferred to Revolut, so you may need to update some payment details separately.

How do I open a Revolut current account?

Before opening a Revolut current account, it’s worth comparing it with other current accounts to make sure it suits the way you manage your money.

  • Compare current accounts

With MoneySuperMarket, you can compare current accounts from a range of providers and look at features such as monthly fees, overdraft options, rewards, switching incentives, travel benefits and app-based banking tools.

  • Check the features you need

Think about whether you want a free account, a paid plan with extra perks, travel benefits, currency features, a joint account or an account with an arranged overdraft.

  • Choose your account

Once you’ve compared your options, you can choose the account that best matches your needs. Comparing current accounts can help you understand what’s available before you apply, so you can feel more confident you’re choosing the right account for your everyday banking.
