How to cancel Sky broadband
So the time has come to cancel your Sky broadband plan. Here's what you need to do.
Cancel Sky broadband if you're out of contract
Cancelling Sky broadband if you’re out of contract is a straightforward and easy process. Because your deal has ended you are not under any obligation to tell Sky that you are leaving - most providers will do this for you once you switch to their service, making it simple and stress free.
However, there are some exceptions. As per Sky’s own cancellation details, you’ll need to contact them if you're switching to:
Virgin Media
BT’s Ultrafast plans
Any other fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) deal
You can do this by doing one of the following:
signing into your Sky account and messaging a Sky expert directly
calling 0333 759 0422
filling in a dedicated form on the Sky website

Cancel Sky broadband if you're under contract
It is possible to cancel your Sky broadband while still in contract, but if you do so outside of your 31 day cooling off period, you will be subject to early termination charges. These vary depending on how long you have left on your deal.
Sky lays these out per deal on its website. Charges will apply
If you’re switching to a cheaper deal, it may be worth considering paying the cancellation fee as you could end up paying less in the long run. Read our guide to cancelling your broadband deal early for more information.
Can I avoid Sky broadband's cancellation fee?
There are certain ways you can avoid Sky broadband cancellation fees. If you cancel during your initial cooling off period (31 days), you won’t need to pay additional fees.
Likewise, if Sky puts up prices above inflation, Ofcom says you are entitled to cancel. Any price rises must be notified in writing. Be aware that inflationary rises are permissible, though.
If your broadband suffers repeated outages and your complaints are not resolved, Ofcom rules mean you should be able to cancel. However, this can be tricky to prove. You’ll need to contact your provider every time a problem occurs and, if it isn’t fixed, ask for help from the Internet Services Adjudication Scheme (CISAS) or the Communications Ombudsman.
Can I cancel for free if my broadband is too slow?
Ofcom says that if advertised broadband speeds drop and a provider does not fix them within a month, then you have a right to cancel without paying a fee. As above, make sure you keep a record of speeds to prove your case.
Sky is part of the Ofcom broadband speed code of practice, so it should live up to its promise of providing the speeds it says it will.
How do I contact Sky broadband to cancel my subscription?
The best option is to call Sky on 0333 759 0422. That way you can speak directly with someone to arrange cancellation.
Alternatively, you can log in your Sky account and message directly with a Sky broadband expert. Logging in will also let you fill in a dedicated cancellation form, or you can email mysky@sky.uk.
You can also cancel by writing to Sky Subscriber Services Ltd, PO Box 43, Livingston, EH54 7DD.
Can I cancel without contacting Sky broadband?
If you’re switching to a provider that offers broadband via the Openreach network (i.e. not Virgin Media) and not taking out a FTTP deal, then you don’t need to contact Sky.
In April 2023, providers were meant to start adhering to Ofcom’s ‘One Touch Switch’ rules meant to make switching easier, without the need to contact even when changing to Virgin or FTTP. However, as Ofcom has found providers to have failed to meet its deadline, it may still be worth contacting Sky just in case.
Do I have to return my Sky broadband router?
If you’re cancelling Sky broadband early, Sky asks that you return your router and any other equipment. If your contract is over, then you can keep it. Remember that your new provider will provide you with a new router, most likely with better tech to make connections more secure.
