Kate Hughes

Multi award-winner and best-selling author Kate Hughes has been a financial journalist for more than 20 years. She started out at the Financial Times at just 21 years old, holding several senior editorial positions, including Online Editor and Deputy Features Editor for the Business arm of the internationally acclaimed paper over 5 years, before moving on to The Independent as Deputy Personal Finance Editor - just as the Financial Crisis kicked in!

As a freelance writer, Kate has written for most of the UK's broadsheets, a huge range of specialist financial media outlets, and several international titles. A big fan of data and examining the way money shapes all our lives, her work has informed everything from parliamentary debates to local radio phone ins. She regularly works with the BBC as a radio and TV commentator.

In her free time, Kate is working with her family to create a 100,000 tree woodland near her home on Exmoor to help battle climate change and biodiversity loss.
