Our Expert Says...

Scottish and Southern's Fair Pricing Policy means they will hold off putting up energy prices for as long as possible and will try to bring them down as quickly as possible.

Scottish Hydro (SSE) supplies 9 million energy customers comprising of 5.53 million electricity customers and 3.47 million gas customers. They generated the most renewable electricity in the UK compared with the other 5 major suppliers, from 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008. They are one of the leading energy companies in the UK and the country's second largest energy supplier, ranking 23rd in the FTSE 100 on 31 March 2009.

Terrible Price

Supplier Ratings

Have been with this supplier for many years but after having to put £50 into my pre-payment meter for 1week (this was only to keep my house warm not boiling) I have had to change my supplier on the hope this will save me up to £200+ per year using prepayment

Very Unethical Company

Supplier Ratings

I got a letter in the mail a few days ago saying that they raised my bill by 29.2% on gas and 19.2% on electricity effective August 25th, 2008. The letter was dated SEPTEMBER and the letter was mailed to me in OCTOBER. Not only that, but they NEVER come to read my meter (according to them it's "to keep the prices low"), so I am probably paying this price hike going back to the Spring at least. So they announced it to the press? I watch BBC & Sky News without fail every morning & I never saw this. I cannot believe there is not a law against this extortion. They also never send you a bill, once again "to keep their prices low", so they just charge whatever they want. How they sleep at night I have no idea, but I am leaving the shiesters.

Don't switch to this company

Supplier Ratings

I signed up to this company in july on a capped rate and in August I received a letter saying my bill was going up by 29%. Apparently they say that they can do what they want. The information they give is very misleading so beware as they make the rules up as they go along.

Hide behind legislation

Added 15/10/2008, reviewed by anonymous (bonnyrigg)

Supplier Ratings

I've just received the latest missive from this utility company - gas +29% and elec +19% backdated to 25 August 2008. When challenged why I was not informed sooner, the customerr services rep, in a rather rehearsed fashion trotted out the legislation and that they had informed the media (I don't remember the media being a customer as such!). This company, like others, waits until the last moment before informing customers of the cash they are going to take and then hides behind the law. Communication in this day and age should take a nano second not two months. I am now looking to change supplier - I'm looking for a company with a customer based ethos - don't think I'll find one though!!

Great customer service... shame they are now banging their prices up by 19% on electricity otherwise would have stayed put.
