The best price to pay – wherever you go

This means that if you're a business traveller, a backpacker or gap-year traveller, or even just a holidaymaker who likes to travel several times a year, the savings you can make can reach hundreds of pounds.

The following tables, which are updated quarterly and compiled by moneysupermarket.com, illustrate the savings for a frequent flyer that spends 100mins making calls and 100mins receiving calls in Germany, Spain and Australia. Note the savings that can be made using a local or global SIM but bear in mind that local SIM cards should be used if you only plan to spend a sustained period in one country - global SIM cards are ideal for those who move around. If you’re on the 3 Mobile network and travelling to Australia you could actually save money by moving to the 3 Like Home tariff rather than picking up a SIM. However, if you are on any other network or tariff, a SIM card offers a cheaper solution.
