COVID-19 alert

On the 4th of April 2020, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advised against all but essential travel until further notice. This means we do not know when travel will be allowed outside the UK.

The World Health Organisation has classed coronavirus (COVID-19) as a pandemic. This means insurers treat it as a "known event", so they will exclude it from most cover.

While cover is currently limited, we understand that you may want to make travel plans for later in the year. Therefore, we have been working with insurers to understand the cover offered by policies bought on or after the 12th of May 2020.

What AREN'T insurers covering?

• If the FCO travel restrictions are still in place when you are due to travel, you will have no or very limited cover.
• You will not be covered for cancellation if it's related to the travel restrictions or COVID-19.
• Insurers treat COVID-19 as a "known event", so they will exclude it from most cover.

What ARE insurers covering?

• If the FCO removes the travel restrictions to your destination before the start of your trip, the terms and conditions of your policy will apply.
• Cancellation cover for reasons that are not related to COVID-19 (e.g. unexpected death, injury or illness). This will vary by insurer and you may need to prove your circumstances (e.g. provide a doctor's note).
• Should your travel dates move, the insurer will look to change your single trip policy to match the new dates without an admin fee, provided the date is within 12 months and the holiday is like for like. If your trip is different (e.g. destination or duration of trip), or if there has been a change to your health you may have to pay more.

You should make sure you are comfortable with the level and conditions of cover available before purchasing. We strongly recommend you read through the policy documents or get in touch with the insurer directly to check the policy meets your needs.

Does any person to be insured have a pre-existing medical condition?
To ensure you have the right cover for your trip it is important you tell us about your medical history. If you do not declare medical conditions this could invalidate your policy. Examples include diabetes, high blood pressure, depression and respiratory conditions (including asthma). You do not need to declare pregnancy as a medical condition.
To help us find the right cover for your trip, it is important you tell us about your medical history. If you don’t declare medical conditions, it could invalidate your policy.

Did you know... if you or a member of your family/group have a pre-existing medical condition, it may be a good idea that everyone travelling is covered under the one policy. This way, if the trip needs to be called-off due to a medical condition, everyone will be covered for the cancellation.

Did you know... one of the main reasons a claim could be declined is for non disclosed medical conditions. It's important you check with all travellers to make sure the cover is right for you.
