Posh nosh falls victim to the D-word

Gordon Ramsay may be swearing more than usual as profits at his restaurant business crash, but restaurant goers are laughing all the way to the bank.  Twenty six per cent of Britons now won’t set foot in a restaurant unless they’ve got a money off voucher in their hand.

Research from moneysupermarket.com Vouchers shows that long lunches are off the menu for typical Ramsay customers such as bankers, accountants, lawyers and advertisers.  Seventy per cent of these high earning diners say eating out is the number one luxury they’ve crunched.

Frugal foodies are currently making considerable savings from restaurant discounts with over 40 per cent of Brits now using a restaurant voucher at least once a month. The top five most popular restaurant vouchers on moneysupermarket.com are: Pizza Express, Zizzi, Strada, Haha Bar and Grill, and Bella Italia.

Simon James, moneysupermarket.com’s voucher expert says; “Restaurant discount vouchers have become increasing popular over the last 12 months or so as the nation’s appetite for a value has increased. Brits have cottoned on the fact that you don’t have to pay over the odds to get good grub and in many cases, you can get it for half price.”
