Telematics is a new style of car insurance, where how you drive affects how much you will pay.

How does it work?

Your driving is monitored by a GPS device within your car, or an app you download to your phone and your driving data is sent by satellite to your insurance company.

The GPS box is the size of a smartphone and is fitted in a matter of minutes.

What does telematics track?

It tracks:

  • The time of day or night you drive at
  • The number of journeys and the type of roads
  • Your speed and how smoothly you drive
  • The amount of mileage that you do

Who is telematics best for?

Young drivers, students, elderly drivers.  Basically anyone who has a low yearly mileage!

In an accident, the box records items that make it easy to work out how and why the accident happened, such as the location and time of the accident, the force of the impact, the direction of travel and the speed of the vehicle.

If your car is stolen, the tracking device means it can be located immediately.

So, that's telematics car insurance - could this be for you?
