Is YOUR fixed rate tariff ending before May?

More than 30 fixed-rate energy tariffs are due to expire between now and the end of May. And if yours is among them you could be shunted onto an expensive standard tariff.  Do nothing and these automatic price hikes could cost up to £168 per year.

Fix up, look sharp

Of the 31 fixes which expire by the end of May, eight will disappear by the end of this month. These include deals from British Gas, EDF Energy, npower and Scottish Power.

British Gas customers on the Fixed Price February 2015 tariff will see average annual bills rise by £100 if they allow the supplier to move them onto a standard tariff, while npower’s Online Price Fix February 2015 customers will be £163 worse off each year, from March, unless they switch.

But it’s not too late to take action. Energy switchers who use MoneySuperMarket save up to £210 by taking advantage of the most competitive deals on the market.

Top of the tables for example, is the Extra Energy Fresh Fixed Price Feb 2016 v10 tariff which comes with an average annual bill of just £913.18.

‘Put the cogs in motion’

Switching suppliers now usually takes just 17 days – and involves no digging, drilling or interruption to your gas and electricity supply. But because we’re more than half way through February, switching will take you into March, so the sooner you switch the better – as MoneySuperMarket energy expert Stephen Murray explains.

“Unfortunately for customers with tariffs ending in February, prolonged switching periods mean that they may experience a few weeks of higher prices until their switch completes, so it’s more important than ever that homeowners put the cogs into motion and shop around to cut costs now.”

The 31 expiring deals

Here’s the full list of the 31 energy deals expiring by the end of May. You’ll find the name of your tariff on your latest bill, or on your online account.

If you see it listed in the table below, you should get onto our energy comparison service to see how much you stand to save by switching.

Bear in mind that some energy suppliers will charge an exit penalty if you leave your fix before it ends. If that’s the case with your fix, you need to time your switch accordingly – given the 17-day switching period.
