Farewell Orange Wednesdays, we’ll miss you

It’s the news that film buffs across the country have been dreading – EE has announced that ‘Orange Wednesday’, its two-for-one film ticket promotion, will come to an end in February.

Since 2003 Orange and EE customers have been able to text ‘film’ to 241 to get a code entitling them to cinema tickets that won’t break the bank. What are we meant to do with our Wednesdays now, EE?

The timing is particularly unfortunate following the recent announcement by Odeon Cinemas that an added fee will be applied to new blockbuster films. An extra £1 will be added to new releases and forms part of Odeon’s ‘flexible’ pricing policy which aims to offer customers more options when heading to the pictures. Thanks for being so flexible, guys!

To counter the added surcharge, Odeon has highlighted that bargains can be found when booking during quieter times.

The last Orange Wednesday, or Black Wednesday as we’ll be mournfully calling it, will be on February 25.

Between now and then, make sure you catch the newest films on these anointed Wednesdays. Clear your schedule, cancel appointments and book annual leave, because quite frankly, going to the cinema at any other time is far too expensive!

For example, watching your favourite film at a Vue cinema (prices vary by location) on a Wednesday night will cost you and your plus one £11.70 each from the end of February. And that’s before you take into account the high-end price tags on popcorn, hotdogs and pick-a-mix.

Here’s a quick overview of some of the films you should catch before the end of Orange Wednesdays.
