The end of winter often brings good news – warmer weather, longer days, and in the past few years, new Samsung Galaxy handsets.
This year is no different, with Samsung celebrating the 10th anniversary of their renowned ‘S’ series by launching the Galaxy S10 range. The line-up includes:
- Samsung Galaxy S10: the flagship model
- Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus: the upmarket version
- Samsung Galaxy S10e: the cheaper option
The tech giant also announced two further handsets:
- Samsung Galaxy S10 5G: a handset featuring new 5G connectivity
- Samsung Galaxy X: an innovative device with a foldable screen
Here’s what Samsung have revealed about the cheapest of their new phones, the Samsung Galaxy S10e.
Release and cost
Samsung announced their Galaxy S10 range at their Unpacked launch event on 20 February, confirming a release date of 8 March. You’ll be able to pick up the S10e for a minimum of £669 – this will give you 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.
Design
The S10e is predictably smaller than the S10 and S10 Plus, measuring at 142.2 x 69.9 x 7.9mm. It’s also the lightest phone in the range, weighing in at 150g.
It had a 5.8 inch AMOLED display offering a 1080 x 2280 resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio – the Infinity-O display getting its name from the punch-hole camera in the upper right corner.
Like the S10 and most variants of the S10 Plus, the phone’s aluminium frame is sandwiched between two glass panes.
The phone is available in the following colours (though it could vary by region):
Flamingo pink
- Prism black
- Prism blue
- Prism white
- Green
- Canary yellow
Features
Unlike its bigger brothers, the S10e’s rear camera only contains two lenses, the main being 12MP and the extra being 16MP. It has the same single 10MP lens selfie camera as the S10, with only the S10 plus containing a secondary 8MP lens.
The S10e also lacks the in-display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner, instead offering a capacitive sensor in the power button on its upper right side.
However, a feature the S10e does have in common with the S10 and S10 Plus is its wireless charging capability. Not only can it be wireless charged, but it can also charge others thanks to its Wireless PowerShare feature.
This means you’ll be able to charge other phones on the back of this one, as well as Samsung’s Galaxy Buds – their new wireless earphones. Even though Samsung have entered the wireless earphone market, their devices all still keep the 3.5mm headphone jack.
Tech specs
Thought it might be the budget option of the S10 range, the S10e doesn’t fall that short of its more expensive siblings.
It comes with a minimum 128GB of internal storage, though it also has 6GB of RAM rather than the 8GB of the S10 and S10 Plus. You can upscale however, with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage being another option – and you can also make use of the microSD slot to expand it even further.
The S10e also has a battery capacity of 3,1000mAh, which should be enough to give it a 24 hour battery life like the other S10 models.
