Samsung doesn’t just knock out top-of-the-range flagship smartphones – it’s also a reliable manufacturer of quality mid-range handsets. And the Samsung Galaxy A71 is quality, indeed.
If you’re a Samsung fan but don’t want to break the bank, the A71 could be just the ticket. With a quad-lens camera, a crisp Full HD+ display, and long-lasting battery life – not to mention the 3.5mm headphone jack – it’s got just about everything you could need from a phone.

Availability and price
The Galaxy A71 was released in January 2020. It’s no longer available to buy directly from Samsung, but plenty of UK networks, mobile retailers, and resellers still stock it.
You can pick up a new model for less than £400, or a refurbished one for £260 or less.
Or, you can take out a contract plan through a network or reseller, and pay it off monthly.
Design and display
The A71 is quite large, sporting a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus HD display. Images are clear and colours are crisp. It’s also made of Gorilla Glass 3, so it won’t shatter easily.
At 1080 x 2400 pixels, the screen isn’t quite as stunningly high-res as Samsung’s flagships. But it’s still Full HD, and more than good enough to view your videos and pictures at great quality.
The design of the phone itself is simple with no frills. The screen is almost full edge-to-edge with next to no bezel, and with a notch for the front camera. The back casing is glossy plastic, which looks a lot like glass for a slightly more premium feel.
Camera and features
On the back of the Samsung Galaxy A71, you’ll find a quad camera with a macro lens. With all those lenses, you can snap a nice range of high-quality photos, in a resolution of up to 64MP. For a phone in this price range, it’s a fantastic setup.
As for the selfie camera, it clocks in at 32MP, with a wide lens and HDR. Plus, it can shoot 4K video almost as well as the main camera – an excellent bonus for quality video calls and live streaming enthusiasts.
Tech specs
Here’s the nitty-gritty. The Galaxy A71 runs on a Snapdragon 730 chipset with an octa-core CPU, and 6GB or 8GB RAM. That all gives it plenty of power to run all the apps, games, and videos you like. Reviewers report very little lag, even with several apps running at once.
You’ll get 128GB storage, and a 4500mAh battery – nice and long-lasting.
Not only that, the A71 also sports an all-important 3.5mm headphone jack, and has a fingerprint sensor embedded in the display.
