How good is the OnePlus 9 Pro’s camera?

The OnePlus 9 Pro comes with a quad camera set up and, on its release, was OnePlus’s best camera to date (the newer OnePlus 10 Pro cranks things up a notch, but costs more). There’s a 48MP main lens and 50MP wide angle lens, both using Sony sensors. These are supplemented by a 8MP telephoto lens that features 3x optical zoom and a 2MP monochrome sensor for arty black and white shots.

OnePlus has teamed up with imaging experts Hasselblad to ensure better colour reproduction. This means that colours look natural but really pop off of the excellent display. Zoom functionality is decent, although newer devices such as the iPhone 14 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra serve up better close up pics, albeit for a far heftier price.

There’s 8K video shooting too, plus a 16MP selfie camera that delivers decent shots for social media.

How good is the OnePlus 9 Pro’s design?

With metal edges and a toughened glass back, the OnePlus 9 Pro looks the part. It’s very similar to previous OnePlus handsets, although that’s not a huge issue. It feels reassuringly weighty in the hand, although never cumbersome despite its large footprint.

The cameras on the back are housed in a slightly raised section, while the front facing camera and other sensors sit unobtrusively across the top of the display. Apple and Samsung fans may prefer their devices’ classic looks, but in design terms the OnePlus 9 Pro is the real deal.

How good is the OnePlus 9 Pro’s display?

The OnePlus 9 Pro screen is a stunner. At 6.7-inches it’s one of the larger displays on the market, featuring AMOLED smarts and a 1440 x 3216 pixel resolution. That means it looks excellent in all conditions, with brightness impressive and comparing well with rival phones from major manufacturers.

The adaptive 120Hz refresh rate is something seen more and more on top end phones. It makes games and video appear smooth, and ensures speedy browsing on the web or social media never feels sluggish. It’s fair to say that the display stands up superbly against much more expensive flagship phones.
