Stunning Design

Let’s start with the obvious: the HTC U Ultra is a very, very good looking phone. Tablet. Phablet. It’s big, with a 5.7-inch display and total dimensions of 6.39 x 3.14 inches, yet still manageable. (Those with smaller hands might struggle to reach the top of the screen, but it’s not a major issue.)

It’s beautiful, with a curved glass back and stunning pearlescent colour options, including baby pink! It also comes in black, white, and dark blue - but really, we all know there’s only one winner here.

It’s bold: HTC dropped the headphone jack, instead opting to have headphones plug into the USB-C port. Remind you of anyone?

QHD Display - Doubling Down

The U Ultra’s display is the true star of the show. Or should we say displays? The phone features a small secondary screen above the main 5.7-inch one, which can show notifications, shortcuts, and app controls (like the song you’re playing in your music app). The 2-inch secondary display is fully customisable - so you can set whether you’d like it to show quick contact shortcuts, your favourite apps, or more.

The primary display is also great, with a 1440p resolution which ensures everything on the screen (text, images, videos) look sharp, and that colours are realistic, while darker tones and contrasts are sufficiently deep. For an LCD screen, it’s doing really well.

HTC Sense

While the HTC U Ultra technically runs on the Android operating system, it layers its own user interface (UI) on top, known as HTC Sense UI. Android fans, don’t worry just yer: all of Android’s features are still present. HTC only adds a few extra flourishes and options here and there. For example, you can add a news service (called News Republic) to source press stories that relate to your interests and display them on your home screen.
