Famous for its catchy jingle, Sheila’s Wheels was launched in October 2005 with the intention of providing female friendly car insurance – and it has now expanded its services to include Sheila’s Wheels home insurance. As with its motor policies, its home insurance products are designed with females in mind and include free family legal protection for those that buy online. There is new-for-old cover on contents as well as cover for clothes, make-up and shoes while you’re in the home. The company operates UK only call centres with a claims line that is open 24hrs a day, seven days a week.

Offer so little for too much money

The company offers very little cover for much more money, customers representatives are rude, they don't tell you upfront all the details unless you insist. You can get 50% more cover for £60 less.

Ok see a lot of people have had issues with Sheila’s Wheels but to be fair it’s not been too bad for me.

Basically I lost my wedding ring at the gym, horrible feeling. Spoke to Sheila’s Wheels and yes you have to answer a few questions and provide information the hardest being a receipt. Lucky for us we paid by credit card so after speaking to the company found the date of purchase, went to the jewellers and they provided us with a copy. The rest was easy to provide. It been 2 weeks for the claim to go through but it went through fine and we have their Personal Shopper Service coming around with some samples for me to try on.

Oh and one note we had a limit of £1000 but oddly they are giving slightly more which was a nice shock.

surly, obstinate & useless.

We are in the process of moving house, one which you would have thought would be a common occurrence for a home insurer - apparently not, the list of hoops that we needed to jump through and the ineptitude of the staff in the call centre made the simple task of moving the policy to a new address almost impossible.

The year is 2012 - but email is not an acceptable transport medium to send documents through, only by fax or snail mail. I mean seriously when was the last time you saw a fax machine?

I went with them as the premium was the lowest - I now understand why, but I will not get caught again by them.

When did the practice of signing up for something for a year change into "we will continue your policy until you cancel"?

Cheap insurance and claim settled in 5 days

My home insurance is with Sheila's Wheels. Nice and cheap. When I went to make a claim I found that Sheila's Wheels was "created" by esure, so the claim was handled by them. On 12th April I reported that my son had taken my mobile phone swimming LITERALLY! At this stage I wasn't going to make a claim, we were hoping to dry it out. On 16th April I phoned them back to say that the phone was dead. I had shopped around for a replacement phone. Carphone Warehouse had it for £499 but I found my phone on sony ericsson's own website for £225. Well, esure snapped my hand off at that because with the £100 excess they only had to pay me £125 !! I have no gripe with that. It is in the documentation and on both telephone calls I was made aware of that. My cheque for £125 arrived today 20th April.

Poor claims handling and experience

In the storms at the start of January my roof was severely damaged. Sheilas Wheels put Cunningham Lyndsey onto the claim - how useless they are. Its taken 2 months and weekly phone calls, emails, photos and quotes from myself for them to now come back and say they can't payout. In the time that it has taken them to decide not to pay out my roof has suffered further damage as there are no tiles or chimney and we've since had lots of rain and snow. What a waste of money that policy was.
