Portable TVs are quite convenient in most situations when you find yourself on the go. Among the current offerings of standard digital handheld TVs, MoneySupermarket offers several that feature an overall strong performance. Screen sizes vary, but generally they are around 7 inches with a 16:9 ratio widescreen display. A typical 480-by-230-pixel display is not even standard definition, let alone HD. However, you can’t expect too much from portable TVs. Most reviews say that picture quality is fairly good - as long as you don't look too closely. Audio quality from the speakers is also said to be surprisingly decent, or you can use a pair of headphones for more enhanced entertainment. Viewing angles are excellent and some come with a built-in stand, which is convenient for use on a tabletop or counter. And in case the hand-held device is too far away for you to get up to change the channel, some even come with a card-sized remote, but don’t expect it do much more than change channels and volume.
If you are in a strong signal area, a portable television’s antenna should be good enough to get the job done. Generally you will have good reception with the whip antenna in locations that are in a range of about 20 miles from the transmitter. For use in more barren signal locations, there are inputs for an external antenna, and if they aren’t already included they are available for a very reasonable price. External antennae with a magnetic base in the box do provide better results. Switching to the external antenna can restore reception if it’s lost.
