Record players may seem like a piece of dead technology. But to a person who really cares about their music, there is nothing further from the truth. Record players may be old fashioned, but the sound they provide still is the best available today. Digital forms of songs including MP3s, WAV files, and even CDs don’t provide the full range of sound that records do. This is because when audio files are put into a digital format they are compressed from their original version and formatted to a digital scale. This means that the Hi and Lo Frequencies are cut out and you lose the full feeling of a track and the multiple layers that give so many of our favourite songs character.

When buying vintage record players (or new record player for that matter), it is important to consider all the different makes, models, and features available to you. If you plan on just using your record player to listen to old records then a belt-drive turntable is a good choice. A belt-drive turntable is simple, relatively inexpensive, and can hook up to most home entertainment systems. If you plan on using your record player for DJing purposes, mixing, and mastering, you may want to consider a direct drive turntable. Direct drive turntables are a little more expensive, but there is little to no lag time when starting a record and hardly any delay when cueing a record. A USB based turntable is a good device that allows you to convert all your old rare records to a digital format to go with the rest of your music library on your computer. Consider all these things, and what you plan on using your record player for, when you are looking at record players for sale.
