There are upright, canister, stick/broom, and hand held vacuum cleaners. Uprights are ideal for solely cleaning carpets, while canister vacuum cleaners are more versatile, but a bit more difficult to manoeuvre. Stick/broom vacuums look like very stream-lined upright vacuum cleaners. Usually, they are less powerful than uprights and canisters, so they are ideal for people who live in small flats. Handheld vacuum cleaners are extremely small. They are usually battery-operated and they are ideally used for cleaning up specific spots that would be difficult for other types of vacuums to reach.

You should also be familiar with the attributes of vacuum cleaners. For instance, the level of vacuum cleaners’ filtration varies. Some have no filtration system, just a bag to collect dust. Others filter out pollen and other particles less than 100 microns. Units with filtration systems are more expensive, but they’re effective in reducing allergens in the home. Pay attention to cord length as well; it should be long enough for you to clean an area of your home without having to move outlets.
