Word Games

Word search games are not only fun, they exercise your brain. They provide players of all ages with mental stimulation and entertainment, but children benefit the most, in a number of ways. They are not essential in helping a child develop abilities to read and use language, but they are great tools.

Word search games increase letter and word recognition. When a child plays with letters and words, he becomes familiar with their spelling. Younger children get used to letter combinations like “ai” and “th”, whilst older children build even more awareness of spelling and grammar.

The games also improve confidence, which is extremely underrated. A child who can have fun with words is better able to enjoy reading and more quickly become an advanced reader. A child who has had fun playing word games will be more likely to feel comfortable reading and writing. They tend to feel more secure about their language abilities.
And even though it can’t compare to learning new vocabulary by reading books, word games can be a useful tool for exposing children to new words.

A really great idea is to give children the task of creating their own word puzzles and word search games. They will enjoy the sense of responsibility and control it gives them. And word search games can be based on particular subjects as well. There can be science, history, and math word search games.

Word search or word scramble games are also especially excellent for Alzheimer’s patients because they challenge the brain to stay alert and help keep the brain active.

About Tari

I can’t stand crowds, or queues, so most of my shopping is done by flitting around the internet! A bit more dangerous perhaps (I own way too many shoes and beauty products), but so much more efficient.
