With the constant evolution of technology, your new purchase just months ago can quickly be pushed into obscurity by the latest tech products. But fear not, every cloud has a silver lining. For those amongst us who are not early adopters of technology, patience can often be a money saving virtue.
Older generation models of popular electronics often feature nearly the same features as their newer counterparts but at a fraction of the cost. Upgrades and new releases are often merely a marketing ploy, and changes to devices are often far from drastic. A look at two popular consumer electronics, the iPod Touch, and the Xbox 360 perfectly illustrate this.
Although the 4th generation iPod Touch features some notable additions, if you are looking for a cheap ipod touch, the 8GB 3rd generation model offers a viable alternative. Though it lacks some of the flashy features, such as Facetime and a camera, it still is equipped with WIFI, and thanks to the upgraded OS, Mail, Safari, and calendar apps. Remember, the 3rd generation was a top of the line device not too long ago.
Microsoft’s recent release of the Xbox 360 S means that there are plenty of Xbox 360 console deals to be had. Although older models don’t have WIFI capabilities, feature smaller hard drives, and lack the more compact design and modern aesthetics of the 360 S, they are still quite capable gaming consoles. Also, the news that Kinect will be compatible with older consoles means that you won’t be missing out on too much if you opt for an older model.
