From the looks of things, online console gaming will most likely be the future of gaming, though at the moment online gaming is not a big concern for the greater portion of console gamers. There has been a dip in online PC gaming and an increase in online console gamers from various demographics, although most of those gamers are Xbox users. Xbox Live is currently the only gaming service that charges a fee for multiplayer, probably because they’re the only ones with the numbers to make it profitable and they don’t need to worry about hooking gamers.
Still, you can see the companies working out their business strategy through the introduction of online distributable PS3 games in the Playstation network store, WiiWare and the Xbox Live Aracade. I personally can’t get enough Dr. Mario Germ Buster on the Wii to satisfy my nostalgia cravings. The Wii may not be as big online as the Xbox is, but if you are looking for some of the best and cheapest Wii games online that you can take advantage of the Wi-Fi connection with, here is a list of my top 5 all under £15.
1. Super Smash Bros. Brawl
One of the Wii’s essential, must-play games. With many newcomers to the character list you can go toe-to-toe against distant friends on the Wi-Fi with your old favourites or with newcomers like Kid Icarus or Sonic from Nintendo’s former Rival SEGA.
2. Mario Kart Wii
Another Wii Classic—race as your favourite Mario character against friends or push through the ranks in your geographical region.
3. The Beatles: Rock Band
Your chance to imagine you and your friends are members in the Fab Four. The alterations made to Rock Band’s engine have ensured the Beatles music is preserved for your enjoyment.
4. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars
There’s no need to go to the arcade with the Wi-Fi capability to play against contenders long distance. Play as your preferred Capcom or anime character in this amazing 2.5D fighter, which includes Ken the Eagle and Frank West from Dead Rising, though sadly, no Zangief.
5. FIFA 10
Of course I had to include a football game. It’s FIFA, what more do I need to say?
