Top 3 PSP Games for When You’re Sick

If you’ve read any of these posts by me, you know I usually prefer the DS as my portable console, but there are times when I really feel like playing the PSP games.

One such time the PSP is good for is when I’m sick. I like to curl up on my sofa in a nest of pillows and electric blankets with a thermos flask of hot chicken broth for hours with a PSP. The portable is more convenient than my console because I don’t have to get up to switch games or manage it. The graphics on a PSP are also better than a DS, which are a boon to my bleary sick boy eyes, and you don’t have to strain to use the PSP controls. I don’t mind all these ports either, because I’m not so critical when I’m sniffling and congested. So here are the Top 3 games I like to play when I’m under the weather.

1. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

I used to play the version for the PS1 all the time when I was young. It didn’t matter that I had done everything, and even obtained Cloud for my party, I’d just start over and play it again every 3 months. It was simple, linear and always made me feel good to play. This PSP version isn’t just a port of the old game; it has better graphics of course, but it also has the two new Onion and Dark Knight classes.

2. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown wars

Yes, you’ve got my theme here: nostalgic ports with simple gameplay. When I’m stuck immobile inside, I like to create mayhem in my virtual world. Smash and roll with Lee and the Triads for hours in this new, top-down perspective installment in the GTA universe.

3. Dissidia: Final Fantasy

I was a little scared when I heard about a Final Fantasy fighting game, but it’s actually very cool. The storyline is crap, as they usually are in fighting games, but this is another nostalgia burner for me. The gameplay reminds me of Virtual On (remember that game? MECHAS!), with its open arena and lock on features. Plus, you can play as Final Fantasy’s Emo poster boy: Cloud Strife. Or as Sephiroth. Very cool indeed.

About Jeffrey H.

Hi my name is Jeff Hughes. I grew up watching British TV (probably a little too young to have been watching Black Adder) and particularly enjoy watching Hugh Laurie on the screen. I studied British and American Literature at University but I wish I had been reading comic books the whole time. I enjoy pubs because I believe you can’t drink on an empty stomach. I also like cats.
