So, you have decided to invest in a GPS. Good for you. There is nothing fun about driving around wasting petrol and sanity when you have some place to be. You want to find the best sat nav deals, but you also want a system that you can trust and isn’t overly complicated. You don’t want to end up like Mr. Robert Jones from South Yorkshire (remember him?), perched on the edge of a cliff in your BMW like the scene from the end of The Italian Job.
You’ve probably read a lot about the Garmin and TomTom brands if you’ve followed our blog posts, or if you’ve done even the smallest amount of Sat Nav research. They are the two reining khans, caliphs, kings, czars, overlords—whatever; they’re the top two in the sat nav game. TomTom can be slightly cheaper than the Garmin brand, but Garmin products tend to be more high-end and innovative. However, they’re pretty much the same in terms of price and options, being such competitive rivals. You probably won’t find many good TomTom sat nav deals in comparison to Garmin because of this competitive pricing.
There is a third option though, with the Navman brand of Sat Navs. They’re not the prettiest systems, but they are cheaper than the other two, and I’ve heard that Navman is actually slightly faster than TomTom. The Navman S505D is one of the slimmer, better looking Navman models and is great if you’re looking for something easy to use. You can find them around £115.00 and they come pre-loaded with maps. They also have the resources of a big name brand so they’ll give you the support and updates you can trust. Try them out.
