When guitar hero first came onto the scene, it was a breakthrough in gaming. Much like the Wii’s presence in the motion gaming market, Guitar Hero brought a new element to gaming as well. As the first game to incorporate instruments as a form of gaming, it took the market by storm. It was not long before Rock Band burst onto the scene with a slight twist on what Guitar Hero had so cleverly developed. While the average consumer might not think that there is a big difference between the two, these systems are quite different.
Guitar Hero focuses on the musicality of the guitar player and in their latest rendition of the game, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, they lay heavy into the theme. While the first Guitar Hero did not place a great emphasis on classic riffs, chord progressions and the true intricacies of the guitar, Warriors of Rock does all of that. They vowed to produce a game that focuses on musicality; this game adds a new element of musicality for the true musician who wants to take it to the next level.
Rock Band on the other hand has put an emphasis on the overall group dynamic of a band, hence the name. In Rock Band 3, you can set up a full band with a drummer, guitarist/bassist as well as a lead singer. It is a great party game that allows for everybody to enjoy themselves and join in on the fun. This is not to say that the latest Rock Band is not a game of musicality and skill; it is simply a game that focuses more on the group dynamic and instills a party atmosphere.
