Review: No Strings Attached

No Strings Attached, a romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, that revolves around the question of whether men and women can be ‘just friends’, or have a strictly physical relationship. While a bit predictable (of course this arrangement can’t work for an extended period of time without someone becoming attached and wanting more), Kutcher and Portman had great chemistry and the film was quite amusing at times.

Emma (Natalie Portman) and Adam (Ashton Kutcher) are long-time acquaintances. When Adam discovers that his ex-girlfriend is now dating his father (Kevin Kline), a famous TV star, he gets rip-roaring pissed and decides to call every girl in his phone until someone will sleep with him. He wakes up bewildered in the flat that Emma shares with three fellow junior doctors. She didn’t sleep with him the night before, but they end up in bed together right before she has to leave for work. Emma works 80 hours a week and has some intimacy issues and so she makes a proposition: sex, no strings attached, anytime, anywhere. Adam is up for the challenge. That’s a no-brainer.

The arrangement lasts for awhile, but of course, the status quo cannot remain as they start falling for each other. The film has some great, quirky supporting characters such as Lake Bell as Adam’s high-strung, awkward co-worker, Lucy. Lucy has a crush on Adam and is extremely awkward about it. Also, I don’t know if you know this, but Natalie Portman is pretty funny. No one could have guessed, but she is.

No Strings Attached is a rom-com worth seeing and one that guys wouldn’t hate. In fact, they might even enjoy it a teeny bit. If not, they’ll at least have lovely Natalie to ogle.

About Tari

I can’t stand crowds, or queues, so most of my shopping is done by flitting around the internet! A bit more dangerous perhaps (I own way too many shoes and beauty products), but so much more efficient.
