The Perfect Valentine’s Day Playlist

To quote an old cliché, music is the language of love. Now I wouldn’t hedge my entire Valentine’s day gift on a mix tape, but in my opinion it’s a great addition to whatever else you have (or are planning) on getting that special someone in your life. On this one, I’d forget what the music charts are saying is best and stick to some classics.

All in all, you may want to incorporate some of their favourite tracks onto the mix as well, just to show you actually pay attention to the things that they like. If you can get hold of her iPod touch, a great way to surprise her is to put the playlist on there before hand.

Here’s some must play tunes:

Etta James – “At Last”
A classic that everyone knows without knowing. Just make sure you tell her she’s just as beautiful as this song.

Al Green – “Love and Happiness”
“Let’s Stay Together” generally gets a bit more recognition, but this is a great song. Just listen to the soul in his voice.

The Isley Brohters – “Between the Sheets”
You might recognize this as the sample from Biggie’s “Big Poppa”. Odds are you’ll feel like big poppa when you put this on the record player.

Barry White – “Can’t Get Enough of Your Love”
A romantic playlist without Barry White? You’re having a laugh.

Lee Fields – “Ladies”
An ode to all those wonderful creatures we call women. Cause when you pass me by, you’re like candy to my eyes.

Led Zeppelin – “Thank You”
A bit of soul, a bit of rock and roll, a bit of folk. I don’t even know how to really describe it. But it’s a great tune.

Curtis Mayfield – “Give me Your Love”
A nice laid back funk track with some killer falsetto vocals.

Marvin Gaye – “Let’s Get it On”
Is it a little played out? Probably. Is it a great song? Definitely.
