When planning a holiday, it’s fun to think of the places you’ll go and the time you will have. The last thing you want to focus on is how much it will all cost. Fortunately, there are a few tricks for having a pleasant stay at a hotel without straining your finances.
Unseasonal Holiday
Hotel rates rise and fall with the holiday season, so it is actually cheaper to take some time off when everyone else is still at work. Since there are less costumers, hotels lower their rates during the off-season. So do some research on where you will be going because, depending on the destinations, they may have different holiday seasons throughout the year.
Compare Online
The best way I know to get the best deal is to visit the hotel website or a price comparison site. The site will find the cheapest rates for you and many offer deals for booking online. Another advantage is if you sign up with a site they will also send you deals. So next time you go on holiday, if you redeem that Travelodge discount code, you will save even more.
Upgrades
Here is a trick to getting a better hotel room for less than it is worth. When checking in to a more affordable room, ask the front desk for an upgrade. If the hotel isn’t fully booked (and if you remembered to tip) they might be able to accommodate you. It is taking a chance, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
Book Early
It is very difficult to show up at a hotel and find a vacancy that day, let alone get a deal for a room. If you want a room at all, make a reservation. If you want a cheap rate, reserve far in advanced. You can call around to different hotels in the area and see which one will get you the best room for a good price on the day you wish to stay.
