What has been called the greatest motion picture of this generation is now available on DVD. Take a musical journey into the world of American teenagers as they deal with life’s toughest problems in High School Musical.
Troy Bolton (Zac Efron) and Gabriella Montez (Vanessa Hudgens) are two completely different teenagers. One likes basketball, the other is Mexican. While they are both on holiday, they meet at a party while singing karaoke on New Years Eve (It’s a very peculiar karaoke machine, as all the songs seem to be original and never heard before). Neither of them are very good at singing, but they don’t let that stop them. Thus, the stage for High School Musical is set.
One week later Troy goes back to his high school, East High, in New Mexico to find that Gabriella is a new student there because she got kicked out of her old high school for vandalism. They quickly become close, as is common for beautiful people, and accidentally audition for the school musical. After getting a callback, drama queen, Sharpay Evans (Ashley Tisdale) and her sidekick brother, Ryan (Lucas Grabeel) are furious. Ryan battles with his own feelings and attraction towards Troy, and devises a plot to have Gabriella kidnapped. Sharpay thinks this is a little too hostile, so they settle on having the two split up. Then Chad, Troy’s best friend and basketball teammate, and Taylor, Gabriella’s new friend on the decathlon team must find out a way to make Gabriella hate Troy. It truly seems as if the whole world is against these star-crossed lovers. Did I mention nearly all conflict in the film is resolved with song and dance?
If Shakespeare was manic depressive and wrote movies for teenagers, this would be that movie. High School Musical is a fun family romp with catchy songs that everyone can enjoy.
