When I think back on the various phases of my childhood, a couple of classic films, comics and video games come to mind. Apart from countless nights of Mario Kart and Goldeneye, there were a number of exciting titles for the ages.
From my youngest days, I will always remember Toy Story. This Pixar classic was so much a part of my childhood that I felt obligated to see Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 on DVD. Of course, in my day we viewed our favourite films on these things called VHS cassettes. While the original Toy Story is hard to top, I will say that Toy Story 3 was a solid effort. The scene in which Buzz has his switches tampered with and begins seducing Jesse as a salsa dancing Spaniard had me laughing for days.
While you can never outgrow the Toy Story series, when the Spiderman films were released, I was as excited as ever. Having watched the cartoon on every Saturday morning and read a large portion of the comic books, I had to see the films. While they did not excite me quite as much as the comic book series or the cartoons, the films were awesome. I am still waiting for the day where Carnage makes his way into a Spiderman movie and am hoping that Venom is somehow involved as well.
I cannot forget my middle school years, when at every sleepover my friends and I would watch the Alien series from beginning to end. One of the most epic scenes that I will always remember, from the second film in the series, is when the Aliens are clinging to the roof and waiting to prey on the people. It was always a chilling moment, even after having seen it for the twentieth time. Now that you can get Alien on blu-ray, it will only be that much better.
