I had not played a COD game avidly since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Somehow, I managed to entirely skip out on the sequel, Modern Warfare 2. That all changed when my brother accidentally ordered COD Black ops for the Xbox instead of his Playstation. I figured since I had an Xbox Live Gold subscription, I might as well use it.
I was a little late on the Call of Duty Black Ops for Xbox 360 bandwagon, but let me tell you, now that I’ve gotten into the swing of things my social life has taken a serious back seat. After messing about on the campaign mode for about a week or so, I decided it was time to test my mettle online.
The first thing I noticed were the changes made to the customization of your character. While the core system of gaining experience and unlocking weapons and upgrades is still in place, there is a much larger onus placed on the individual player to create classes of their liking. While you earn experience in Black Ops, you also earn money. This money can be used to purchase unlocked weapons, as well as attachments for those guns.
The overall feel of the game is rather similar to previous versions. Online play still centers around familiar game play modes, such as team death match and capture the flag. However, with all the new weapons, perks, and additions you can pick up, there seems to be an endless combination of classes to create.
